Domain registered on Drop Catch but not up for auction?

Hi, I'm totally new to this! I wanted to register a domain that I knew was expiring. Unfortunately, I was about a day late... According to WhoIs, the domain I want got registered by DropCatch today and it shows an expiration date a year from now. However, it's not up for auction or sale. I can't imagine that it's a high demand name.

I'm wondering what my options are. I didn't think they'd register a domain unless they were going to sell it?

Enlighten me please!
Thanks!

Public auction = anyone can bid.

If it means a lot to you, register an account, have it verified so that you can bid above the minimum bid price, and hopefully you'll win the auction. Don't share the domain, to minimize exposure of the auction.

Good luck.

I thought that it would be in auction but I can't find it. Maybe Drop Catch waits a day or so to sell it? I'll get registered... thanks!

If it's not up for auction, it's quite possible there was only a single order for catching this domain and thus this domain went straight to that only bidder.

It's still showing as registered to DropCatch so I'm hoping not, but I realize these things can take a little time. I'll keep an eye on the austions.

It was backordered via Dropcatch. Until payment is through and the domain moved to the buyer's Namebright account, the domain usually displays as owned by Dropcatch. Unfortunately, you missed the domain. One option might be to make an offer to the successful buyer. Depending on how important the name is to you, you might want to make a reasonable offer.

Since the domain is not on auction, it is either grabbed by dropcatch bot for their own hugedomains dot com portfolio (so you'll soon see it listed for sale with a fixed price likely in 4 figures range) - which should happen if it is indeed not a high demand name (meaning that nobody bothered to order it with dropcatch system).

Or it was indeed marked by somebody (just one) of dropcatch customers as potentially good domain - then all would depend on who ordered it and for what purpose, most likely for resale though

Huge domains caught two of my expired domains and added buy it now prices to it!

I was thinking that I'll do hand register these domains once they expired

True. If only 1 person has backordered the name at Dropcatch, it directly goes to his account. Payment for caught backorders are due by the 4th day after they catch them. Thus, buyer has 4 days to pay up. If he fails to pay, it goes into auction by Dropcatch. Once he pays, he acquires it .

It is not necessay that he might put it directly for auction. For example, in my case, once I acquire a domain, I send outbound mail to firms/ individuals I believe would most likely buy it. Only after exhausting my leads, I would think of auctioning it.

P.S: I have picked few from Dropcatch lately. I hope it is not one of them :). DM for details
