I was reading llll.com report sales, and then had a look at for sale section, and the difference I could see, for example,

tnvr.com sold for $4,140, while

bibk.com can be bought for $250

Why? What is the difference between them? :)

There are differences but remember one is a completed auction sale price the other is an offer to sell.

First thought is TN is an abbreviation for a usa state, bi is not. Perhaps the Thurso and Nation Valley Railway needed a domain name lol. (I got one, TN Vacation Rental try coming up with one for bibk lol) One price you quote is the ideal sale price to probably an "enduser". The other price is a guy just wanting to move the name and get what he feels is fair quick sale money to him (trust me he ran through all the acronyms combos and probably gave up lol). If all 4 letter coms where worth mid xxxx nobody would sell them for less. If they dont say something like "FABO.COM" (15k sold) then it might have sold because of an abbreviation-acronyms. Much has been writing about what letters make higher chances of a popular acronym.

VMED.COM $6,300
AEDU.COM $8,500
SITW.COM $5,400
WAWC.COM $4,040
IDNX.COM $5,500
VTOO.COM $4,888
VBAG.COM $4,500
PNLP.COM $4,388

YRDG.com will be auction off here at namepros(see sig below) perhaps the name winner can flip it for 4k one day, you never know when that ideal buyer comes along.

Ic thanks johname, so apart from one combination being bit better than the other, the main difference is basically end user price v reseller price (big difference though!).

When you say "you never know when that ideal buyer comes along", what are the chances of simply waiting for the end user to find you (say linking from the actual website/forwarding the url to the sedo page with your offer), as opposed to actively seeking the buyer? Would you say it is 50/50, or does active solicitation increase the chance of a sale significantly?

I also read in some posts here, that some domainers prefer to wait until the end user contacts them, because in that situation they would have an upper hand.

There is a quality difference, you try to come up with anything for bibk?

Also remember that once tnvr.com went to auction the domain owner might have emailed everyone they thought might have even the slightest interest in these letter groupings. You just never know the whole story

the best offers are when enduser contact you in my opinion.

active solicitation is generally needed to get you up the ladder or to help keep the money coming in more regular. But the unsolicted offers are the ones you really want.

exactly but the catch 22 is you can go a long time before to make a sale.

Thanks johname this is great to confirm. Although in the past I have received offers to purchase a domain (and thought they were quite reasonable even though I wasn't interested), I just don't feel very comfortable to go the route of active solicitation myself! Its good to know that there are still chances otherwise :tu:
