Domain Parking Censorship or Good Sense?

Seems like many parking and ad services are very selective in the domains they accept. Often, nothing "controversial" is allowed, whether political, religious, adult, gambling, alcohol, drug-related or even just opinionated.

Some services post reasons for the conservative approach, but often there is more of a take-it-or-leave-it attitude than an explanation.

Is this practice censorship or being prudent? Is it a parking service’s right, or is it a way of imposing someone’s morality? Is it a good thing or bad? Does it impact revenue?

Do some of the rejections not make sense? Examples? Would adding a “controversial” category help, or should it stay the same?

Where and how is the line drawn? Should the guidelines be formalized for all or left to individual services?

What’s your opinion…or your thoughts in general?

My opinion is that parking companies' true clients are not domainers, they are advertising companies. So if they believe someone's domain could tend to offend an advertiser, then I'm sure they err on the side of rejecting.

Of course parking companies need domainers. But we aren't their main focus. (They call advertising companies clients, not us.)

As a side note, I believe this is possibly why no parking company has invested in more aggressive marketing to end users. Perhaps this is wrong as I'm simply going on a hunch, but if parking companies' main source of income were commissions from sales, rather than commissions from parking revenues, I think more of their effort would go into developing a sales and/or marketing team to help move more domains in a timely manner.

A parking company has every right to deny any domain they want. Whether it be to keep their parking site in a good light and good relations with the ad provider or simple morals. The take it or leave it thing is all you can do.

Sure, of course. But I think better information can be gleaned, in terms of understanding this business, by asking why. (See my above post.)
