Domain names are difficult enough to value without worrying about developed values

I think we should be clear what we mean when we say "developed values" in appraisals - i assume we are talking about potenital... but

surely the real 'extra value' (aside from the domain name) lies in the customers/e-zine subscribers/brand recognition/visitors & links
and not necesarily in how "developed" the site is itself?
i guess its what is meant by "development"...

this "extra value" cannot be easily estimated prior to development, and certainly if you don't understand the market in which it has potential. So to give a development appraisal value is abit, well, impossible.

also, your content will not necessarily be even relevent to the new domain buyer.... they may just want the domain name for url forwarding or another purpose.

hope i'm making some sense.

i guess you could argue that a really good name improves the overall intangible value as there will be a multiplier effect between the customer and the name. But again this future value is still unknown.

I try to stay away from end-user appraisals. Just too difficult IMO.

Trying to give a domain a 'developed value' would be like trying to appraise a vacant lot based on house that's not even built yet. How do you know if it's going to be a mansion or a shack?

precisely, thats why developed sites are always worth exponentially more
