Hi there, forgive this ignorant question, however, what tools do you all use to get an idea of how well a domain name will perform. I see all sorts of stats posted, like google information, however, I do not know where to go or what to do.

Hope that makes sense, your time and help is appreciated!

Mike

Google and Overture "search results" can help with both finding potential End users for one's domains, and perceived valuations as well. My advice would be to read up on the threads / posts here on the site, taking it all in and "experimenting" with some of the thoughts / comments left in the posts, IMHO. Don't go crazy registering domain names until you get a feel for some of the "tools" and factors leading to either generally accepted development or reselling "perfomance". :gl:

Just my two sense - :imho: - and Welcome to Namepros! :talk:

Welcome to NamePros Mike, we're glad that you've decided to join us! I'm sure you'll find out that it was the best decision you could of made. :tu:

A great resource for finding link popularity and other tools is http://www.startname.com by one of our fellow NP'rs. Like Jeff mentioned don't go nuts registering domains until you've educated yourself more in the Industry and are more familiar with what sells and what to stay away from. All too often newbies will think up a not so great domain that they think will sell for quite a bit to only find that they can't sell it for even $5. Then they're stuck with a bunch of worthless names that they can't even give away for free and out several hundred bucks wasted down the drain.

Use this forum to gain more knowledge as there's a wealth of information here and many wonderful members that you'll be able to learn from. Once you feel comfortable with your knowledge level then start registering domains. :)

Remember that a domain is only worth as much as someone's willing to pay. I'd avoid the valuation tools such as the automatic appraisal sites as most times they're not even close. It just bases it on the length, keywords, etc and doesn't really help you with the value. A domain worth $5 can be said to be worth $200,000 with one of those scripts, just bases it with what you enter in about the domain into the fields.

Best of luck to you Mike! :tu:

I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond!! I actually have several domain names already so I thought I would see how they rank...Well I have no idea what in the world I am looking for LOL

My two newest domain names have no sites attached to them yet...So how can they be rated? I type it into that Link Popularity site and there really was no info??

Thanks again everyone!

Welcome, Mike.

There is a thread where you can post a few names and folks will give you their thoughts and opinions regarding value and maybe even ask a few questions you didn't think about.

http://www.namepros.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3

Good Luck!

P.S. Really, don't register a lot of names until you know what you are doing or you will end up with 100s of useless names like yours truly did when he first started.

Thanks a lot...ya I posted them in the appraisal area to try to get an idea if they are useful domains or not. I wish I knew (or understood) the tools out there that I can look at to help with deciding if a domain is good or bad ;)

Appreciate the time!

"Experience is the best teacher, it is also the most expensive"

Sounds like domains to me! :D
