Domain Appraisal

Hi all!

I'm developing a (free) tool to let people appraise their domains easily with software. However, I do not want any "automatic" appraise tool, instead, I'm planning to allow users to "value" different factors on a scale 1-10, then give it a estimated money worth.

The problem is, that I need your opinions on how the scale should be, for what factors, and how much "money worth" for each factor.

This won't only help me, but will help you as well, as the software WILL be freeware!

PS: Anybody can think of a good name for it, with a domain not regged?

Some ideas to consider:

1) Extension (Large multiplier for .com, all the others on some sliding scale)
2) Length
3) Dictionary word?
4) Pronouncable
5) Not tm'd (The risk factor)
6) Industry/sector of the keywords in the domain (For instance, farming vs. electronics)
7) Hyphens (Or lack-thereof)
8) etc. etc. etc....

I think at one point NamePros had a tool similar to the one you are describing, but it very well might have been discontinued (And of course new programs give new results and have new strengths/weaknesses, so best of luck with yours!).

http://www.namepros.com/dna/ is where the namepros DNA(Domain Name Appraisal) tool was located, but it longer works...

Should I add it things like traffic, alexa rating, PR, and stuff like that as well? But isn't traffic the same as alexa rating?

No... traffic is how many visitors the site gets. Alexa ranking is how popular your site is compared to others. The most popular site may have millions of visitors a day (traffic), but it's Alexa ranking would be 1.

the values will change weighting depending on the word or phrase. The assessment requires a cultural consideration which does not lend itself easily to an algorithm. good luck.
