Hi guys. Does it matter if my domain web address is without www? Does this affect SEO of the site?

You can have both options.

Users still type in www, so it's a good idea to direct both www and no www to your website.

One should be set up as your main URL address and the other a redirect.

most people just give,show or list their website address without www


because it's assumed internet users will type www anyway

still, many host accounts set-up www folders for your webpages for publishing to internet. so in that respect it's kind of automatic.

but i don't see how using www or not would affect ranking, because if one types your url in address bar, then they arrive to your site directly, not from a search engine.

therefore, since those visitors did not search, logically...there should be no SE effect.

example; look at google for keyword 'tape', most results listed with www and a few don't have www.

but i wouldn't know if that's how google decides to list them or how the webmaster set-up the domain

Google consider them separate pages unless Google changed.

Just to be on the safe side...
Make sure you use same URL when you post/place links on any web sites/pages.
It doesn't matter which.

If you use URL with www, use URL with www on all links.

And then, forward URL without www to URL with www by adding following code on ".htaccess" file.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^your-domain-name\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.your-domain-name.com/$1 [L,R=301]

By adding above code on ".htaccess" file, any typein without www will be forwarded to page with www.
Google will index all pages as pages with www.
Thus, Google will NOT split your PR between with www and without www.

Some say Google nolonger care about PR, but, I still don't want to take any chance
