Pick a topic. Any topic. Unless this is something that you're full-fired passionate about with the force of God, chances are you're not going to be able to write something that's better or unique than the plethora of content that's already out there.
Unless owning keyword domains of the keywords your writing about, featured in the content scattered throughout the site is advantageous enough to index well enough making the entire operation profitable.
Question: Do domains really mater? Or: Do they matter enough to make mini-sites profitable?
It's easy for me to setup a PokerStories.us but does that domain matter enough to make that mini-site profitable over the millions of competing sites out there that don't feature "poker stories" in their domain (most of them with content way better than mine)?
Question: Is unique content really worth it? Consider this: Content writers aren't going to write anything better than what you can put together. And that won't be better or different than what's already out there. And I think all these fears about duplicate content are overblown. Google isn't going to de-index your site for copy and pasting a "free content" article that only 5 other domains feature.
I'm trying to challenge the "start niche sites that don't have much competition with unique content" belief that's out there when those niches aren't likely to be things we have enough passion to write mind-boggling content for and niches that content writers aren't going to topple the competition with. Would the domain be good enough to make that strategy work?
If your claiming that the strategy of "start niche sites that dont have much competition with unique content that you write or pay for" works, then back it up and let's see some examples. Because "small competition" can still be a lot.
