Does Google Sitemap help?

I just have a question. If I set up and add a google sitemap page and submit it to google. Will this increase my site performance in google search? I mean, will the rank of my site become better when someone type in a particular keyword?

that should do it, but also, you should try to tweak your site for for better seo. Also gaining backlinks is a must

I guess, the purpose of sitemap is just to inform googlebot that you've just updated new pages and for them to include your site for their list on the next crawling...

If you have many pages that is regularly updated it is helpfull.
Or if you have made changes to pages that havent been updated in a blue moon.

No correlation at all with rankings and getting spidered

I am not sure if there is a connection, but I created a cell phone site a few weeks ago. Within days of creating the google sitemap I had a few hundred indexes in google. Prior to that I only had the main page indexed. There may be other factors involved, but I think the google sitemp makes a big difference.

Consider this, would you prefer to do business with someone who is going to go out of their way to work with you, or an average joe who doesn't make an effort to do business with you.

The moment you start thinking like that while developing your site is the moment you become Google's best friend.

IMO when logging into your Google sitemap account you can view useful information such as when your site was last crawled and also the page errors found during last visits. This will be useful to help find the broken internal and external links coming into your website.
