Google Error?

I have submitted a sitemap on google.

After it had verified my site.

It said ERRORS 1

They I clicked on details, this is what it said.

Error Detail
Unsupported file format Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.


What exactly am I doing wrong? HELP

my index?

my index is html?

I haven't done xml yet. Is it too difficult?

what sitemap generator are you using?

just create a sitemap.html and let this tool convert it into sitemap.xml

that tool is recommended by google as a third party generator.

Your index is your homepage, this should be in html.

Your sitemap is a directory of all the pages on your site, this should be in xml.

a sitemap is just like a table of contents that displays the list of all webpages of your site.
