I live in Australia and we are of course familiar with .com.au but .au.com names are available for $2 for 2 years. For those of you who are more experienced, do these have any future?

Cheers,
Rowan

and yes its very popular here , to the point if you reg a .com you may not be considered local to australia

they cost more than $2 a year !!! closer to 15 - 20

also we have .net.au .......for a serious project yes of course , just gotta live here

funny that

i believe .au.com is a sub domain

au.com is a sub domain service.

Lot of these floating around but you wouldn't catch me developing one.

Rowan,

Have your domains actually been registered yet, mine are still pending...

in answer to the original question.............no

but, if there are some really high ranked (alexa) .com.au sites then some traffic may leak over to the .au.com variation and may be worth regging a couple just to park up, 'may' make a few quid

not for me tho

Netregistry owns the domain name au.com - Hostess is also part of netRegistry.

They are simply selling sub-domains to a name they own, useless and pointless and much more of a grey area i terms of who owns your registered sub-domain.

As with any other subdomain whether its au.com or us.com, de.com, eu.com, etc......my advise is not to waste your money buying subdomains

.com.au is indeed one of the popular cctld's of Asia after .CN .. I have lost so many clients just because I didn't have .au on my system....
