Does a domain loose PR?

Hello,
I wanted to ask this question from quite some time now.

After buying or winning domains in auction that already have some PR, do the domains loose their PR, etc.

Also if the domain drops, and you pick it up, will it retain its PR that it had before dropping/deleting?

What will be the effect of PR updates on the domain? What ways should be adopted to avoid any PR loss, if any, after acquiring a PR domain?

Thanks

Hello,
A domain is not going to lose any pr before they expire. Even if they get dropped and picked up pretty quick I do not think it is going to make that much difference. The thing you have to look at is the backlinks going to the domain. They are what is giving the domain its pr so if they go away then the pr goes away

I am still not too sure about this. Let's hope my domains don't loose their PR.

Links are not the only thing that affect PageRank, but they are a big part of it. When a domain expires, it will not be seen by spiders and robots for about 45 days or longer. Most sites and domains are going to start losing PR since their site no longer exists. And if webmasters find they have bad links on their sites to a domain that has expired, they are going to remove those links. Lastly, when and if the domain appears again, it may not have the same content and therefore the same PageRank is less likely to be seen.

Getting an expired domain with PR is like finding a parking meter that has some time left on it. It's great when it happens, but the clock is ticking and you would do well to plan on putting your own money in the meter so you don't get a ticket. :)

Yeah! it can loose but the changes would take around 2-3 months if the indexed backlinks started to vanish!

You will have PR with that domain name as long as other web sites keep all links to that domain name. But be aware about fake PR techniques which can be used by the domainers.

I haven't bought any domains with PR for about three years. When I did buy them I would look them up at archive.org to see what their previous content looked like and then publish a one or two page site with similar content.

Some (half maybe?) lost their PR over the next year or so. The rest kept it. One actually increased it's PR. Apparently there is a link from a deeply buried page on a site that is doing well.

A domain does not lose pr before it expires.Even if they fall and resumed fairly quickly,I do not think you'll do as I have said many links difference.Like I think that is acquired before the restoration will be devalued. You may find others the same opinion too.PR depends strictly backlinks and so if these backlinks for PR juice to be in the range of public relations as well!

A domain can always lose pr if the link that linked to them disappear or don't exist anymore. The more links the more votes you have so the higher pr you have, if those links disappear so does your pr.

If you pick up an expired domain with PR it usually loses it's PR on the next PR toolbar update, unless you build new links to the domain.

it depends on the domains backlinks.

Yes indeed , they do
Page Ranks are based upon the amount of traffic your domain attracts and hence can drop

but as soon as the traffic regains, the pR is picked up also pretty quickly!!

backlinks

As noted its all about backlinks. If you lose your backlinks you'll lose PR. Content does not directly affect PR but if you change the content, people might remove your backlink, so you'll lose PR. Also note that the PR of linking page might decrease so your page PR might decrease.

Second point being if you site is de-indexed your PR will "disappear" but it will return after you get indexed but that might be affected by Google update schedule.
