Do you sell more domains passively @ GD?

I am about to pull the trigger on buying some names in bulk (around 700-800 .COM).

Do you find that you have good/better sales results by having your domains at GD (afternic premium sales network w/great exposure/visibility at top registrars etc.) or do you find that it doesn't make much of a difference having this extra "marketing-push" by putting your name in front of more potential buyers.

I am asking as I have the the option of picking up the domains at another registrar for $1.35 cheaper/domain. Could it be worth paying the extra fees (around $1,000 in total) for more exposure and potentially a few more sales (most of my sales are in the low to mid $x,xxx range)? Curious as to your experiences/opinions.

It helps. But you do not need to have domains registered with GD to have them listed in the GD auctions lists (as BIN or Make offer). If you're talking about Premium Listings, well I suspect they're going to go away now that GD domain manager and Afternic are integrated more tightly. the other registrar where you're getting it cheaper, are they in the Afternic DLS? If so, then I think you'll get the benefits of premium listings. If not, then you should not go for them

Personally I only use godaddy for 95% of my domains. The reasons are brand, easy to transfer (although they have changed a bit on this),and can list as prem sale listing and I forward my doamin to the actual listing. Only sold 2 or 3 this way but I feel better since people may think Godaddy owns this name and not some "domainer" May make the person buying the domain a bit more at ease.

Interesting Question. My view would be that most buyers will most likely type in the name rather than search via GD/Afternic etc. However, nothing stopping you listing the name on most of the top registrars market places anyway.

Why not split test it, put half of those domains on the registrar that is cheap and not part of the network. Then the other half pay the extra for reg cost but get an idea if the sales increase or not.

Saying that, If you feel you would get more exposure, higher chance of a sale, 1 sale would cover the extra cost!

I'd probably pay the extra $1.35 for Afnic fast transfer. But then again any .COM with any registrar listed @ Afnic with BIN gets distributed to GD search path (and NetSol, Register.com and more) regardless of Afnic Premium. So not sure it matters that much distribution wise. Actually, I don't know what I would do...

For years I sell traditionally approx 25% privately and 75% via GoDaddy/Afternic. It fluctuates up and down a bit, but that's my tradition long-term average. I sell about 1 domain on Sedo approx once every 2 years.

I also had very little interest at Sedo without my domains being parked there. Getting regular sales through Afternic also without parking.

I get way more offers on GD than Sedo, which is probably due to the huge amounts they spend on advertising their brand. For smaller sales, I prefer GD due to the ease of transfer and the lower commission (20%, min. $15) vs Sedo (15%, min $60). For any sale above $300, Sedo works out cheaper. I should explore selling on namePros...
