I think that's where the 'addicted' thing comes in. ;)

Holy crap! I knew you had a lot, but I'm at a loss for words... D-:

I thought my ~250 qualified me as an addict! I sure feel like one...and I've got to stop!!

A little political correctness here please

Maybe "addicted" is a bit strong. Some living with unlimitedideaitis might prefer "speculatively-challenged"

Hmm ... Who can help someone reach 2k ? ... Peyton Manning's team maybe ...

Very interesting poll.

I have less than 50...But, I am not surprised by these numbers....I started late and thus had to look through many many names to find descent or good ones to register...And, it's rare to find a registrant name in the whois that I had not seen before even regarding foreign languages (it started a bit with more recent registrations)...I always see the same names...

While 300'000 registrations can seem a lot, indeed there are not that many people or organisations who registered .mobi. If you take an average of 100 (which is certainly very or too conservative), it's only 3000 people....How many buyers of XXXX .mobi there is right now? Very few I guess...

Without people knowing about it, this is not really surprising I guess....But, if the general public becomes aware of .mobi and starts speculating (remembering of dotcom, hype,...), with so few people having registered the good ones, it could be fun to watch....

true, but no one should focus on the number of "Registrants", look at who they are.

everyone should keep their eye on this thread:
http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/260485-major-corporation-mobi-names.html
a listing of major companies/corps that have been registering .mobis, and you'll be surprised to see that it not only covers intellectual/brand protection, they may be speculating and/or I like to think these companies aren't buying .mobis to flip in the aftermarket, I believe they will be instrumental in helping .mobi get a foothold and so they are reserving domains to develop.

I found numerous well-known media companies (broadcasting, print, tv, radio) grabbing generic city names, locations, concepts, phrases and not all are trademarked by them (easy to check). i.e. Disney grabbing NewYearsEve.mobi - that one is truly very telling... if anyone has been to Orlando and visited Disney's (Adult) Playground "Pleasure Island" (I believe 7+ nightclubs on one island, one admission, unlimited access), I'm not sure if they still do, but they celebrated New Year's Eve every night outside with fireworks, ball drop, countdown, confetti cannons, etc... EVERY NIGHT... not a bad tourist trap for $25 person. But I can only imagine that Disney has registered NewYearsEve.mobi to promote Pleasure Island and all the actual real New Year's Eve events at all their themeparks worldwide. Great domain, simply amazing... and owned by Disney. (btw, they did not register: pleasureisland.mobi, someone else did) If .mobi gets a foothold, that domain will get incredible type-ins, but what I'm hoping for is that Disney will be promoting NewYearsEve.mobi everywhere. That just benefits all .mobi owners.

... and Disney is just one company. I'm doing some deep mining and hope to uncover all the .mobis owned by them and other corps.

anywho... back to the poll. ;)

McRhee, there is no need to convince me that .mobi has a chance to be terrific in the future and that some people around here have a chance to make a fortune out of it. I won't invest too much and won't buy for a big price on the secondary market, simply because right now I cannot afford to lose too much (regarding the subject you cited, you will see that I contributed and saw many others).

But when I look at this poll, it confirms to me that actual prices .mobi are sold are of no indication to me. Except big Corporations who registered some names, only very few people are right now interested in .mobi. Thus, hopefully it's assymetry of information. Other people are just not aware of it.

But, when I look at the mid-size sales, it's almost always the same people involved. Now, I look at who has .mobi names and I see it's very concentrated. Thus actual prices of .mobi are only interesting if you have good names and you want to recoup your investment and diminish the risk now. I would not make any registration or buy any name, because whatever .mobi name has been sold for whatever amout at this stage.

(Indeed, Lenders seems an interesting sale, because the amount seems to have been paid in relation with development)

ok - quick calculation... ~ 15000 .mobis so far... = roughly 5% of .mobi registrations worldwide...

add to that all the other NPers, and we probably account for 7-10% considering those who didn't take the poll yet...

I would say .mobi has been good to NP, and vice versa, although I'm one who was attracted to NP after getting into .mobi; it has been a snowball effect ever since I found folks here posting lists of unregistered .mobi names - makes me wonder if there's some kind of NP / dotmobi collaboration going on? :|
- just kidding of course... this is definitely THE place to "gatheraround.mobi"
