Very interesting poll.
While 300'000 registrations can seem a lot, indeed there are not that many people or organisations who registered .mobi. If you take an average of 100 (which is certainly very or too conservative), it's only 3000 people....How many buyers of XXXX .mobi there is right now? Very few I guess...
true, but no one should focus on the number of "Registrants", look at who they are.
everyone should keep their eye on this thread:
http://www.namepros.com/dot-mobi/260485-major-corporation-mobi-names.html
a listing of major companies/corps that have been registering .mobis, and you'll be surprised to see that it not only covers intellectual/brand protection, they may be speculating and/or I like to think these companies aren't buying .mobis to flip in the aftermarket, I believe they will be instrumental in helping .mobi get a foothold and so they are reserving domains to develop.
I found numerous well-known media companies (broadcasting, print, tv, radio) grabbing generic city names, locations, concepts, phrases and not all are trademarked by them (easy to check). i.e. Disney grabbing NewYearsEve.mobi - that one is truly very telling... if anyone has been to Orlando and visited Disney's (Adult) Playground "
Pleasure Island" (I believe 7+ nightclubs on one island, one admission, unlimited access), I'm not sure if they still do, but they celebrated New Year's Eve every night outside with fireworks, ball drop, countdown, confetti cannons, etc... EVERY NIGHT... not a bad tourist trap for $25 person. But I can only imagine that Disney has registered NewYearsEve.mobi to promote Pleasure Island and all the actual real New Year's Eve events at all their themeparks worldwide. Great domain, simply amazing... and owned by Disney. (btw, they did not register: pleasureisland.mobi, someone else did) If .mobi gets a foothold, that domain will get incredible type-ins, but what I'm hoping for is that Disney will be promoting NewYearsEve.mobi everywhere. That just benefits all .mobi owners.
... and Disney is just one company. I'm doing some deep mining and hope to uncover all the .mobis owned by them and other corps.
anywho... back to the poll.
