Do you have problems telling people ...

Hi everyone,

Especially to those who are a full time domainer, How do you actually go around telling your friends, relatives, about your job ?

Everyone knows what a lawyer, doctor, engineer, webmaster is.
But a "domainer" ?

I wish I was a full timer. Most people I talk with have a good idea what a domainer is and they see beyound the idea of a squatter or porn master. Alot even what to get into it. So I point them right here to NP.

A recent conversation:

Them: "What do you do for work?"
Me: "I'm a web developer."
Them: "Oh! ::: pause ::: what's a web developer exactly?"
Me: "I create web sites for companies, and get them a dot-com."
Them: "Oh I see". Hey, so-&-so wants to get a website. I'll tell him about you.
Me: "Thanks! Here's my card."


Everyone knows what a website is. Use terms they understand. I never use the word "Domainer" unless I know they know what it is, or if I'm up to explaining it all to them...

I typically say that I do webhosting and web development. However, I do share that I dabble in domains (which is a bit of an understatement) but that always brings along the desire of an explanation. I think I've explained what a domainer is over a hundred times now and I'm starting to get sick of it.

I've actually had a few people interested in doing it themselves, but no one has really taken me up on the offer to help out yet.

haha well thats always a good way to get people to be jelous of your accomplishments!haha. I'm sure after hearing that they looked into the domain business lol. and congratulations on yourt accomplishments!

Well remember that it's not an accomplishment until I profit from my investments. :gl:

And by the way, I normally don't go into great detail about what I do, because most people I talk to just don't get it. I must be explaining wrong, so from now on I guess I'll just say that I'm a "web developer"...and if they understand that much then I can give them greater details.

(I guess it's better to explain than leave them thinking that I'm a porn star!) :notme:
