A few years ago I stopped posting domains for appraisal here, and stopped posting them in the 'your reg of the day' thread. I stopped because each time I posted a new domain, I was immediately spammed over the next couple days. Usually only 3 or 4 spams, but it was still annoying enough that I decided to stop posting in those areas. When I reg a new domain and don't post it here, that issue doesn't happen.

Earlier this week, I totally forgot about that. I'd just regged a domain, was hanging here at NP for a few mins one evening and thought What the heck, I'll post my new reg in that reg of the day thread. Oops.

It is now four days later. And I have received, count them, exactly 16 spam emails for that domain, and one scam email (appraisal scam). Total: 17 spurious emails, in return for one mention on this forum. And I'll bet it's not over yet. Obviously a lot of the spammers and scammers out there vulture above this forum, circling in the sky looking down on us for fresh meat, and when someone posts a new reg they swoop in for the kill.

Most of it was people offering to build a website for me. Then some offered seo services and to otherwise help get page ranking. Two emailed to offer to build me a logo and/or header graphic. Then there was the appraisal scam email. And finally today there was one that... well, I'll just paste it in below:

Yes, they are only asking for $47 per year to make sure my domain has 'business domain name search engine registration'!

My question to NPers: is it just me, or is it now common for you to get mega-spammed when you post a new domain reg here? And if you do, which area causes the most emails to you? Is it when you post in the 'your reg of the day' thread, or post a new domain for appraisal, or is it some other thread/area?

I know there ain't much we can do about it. Still, it's enough of an annoyance that it unfortunately will now prevent me from the fun of posting any of my new regs, and the feedback value of posting any new domains for appraisal.

I don't post new regs on NP and I still get these type of emails because they are new regs and the spammers, SEO-shillers etc are harvesting Whois for newly regged names. It does sound like you get more by posting on NP though, which is a shame.

when I was a newbie - I did fall for that I thought I was going to loose my fomain
someone from here explained it to me ;)

Well, this is a new one for meโ€ฆ I posted in another thread a couple of days ago about domain parking. Now I have an unsolicited PM I'm looking at sent to me by a new NP member (only signed up yesterday), offering me domain parking services. I wonder how many other NPers they've sent this to. I thought this was against NP forum TOS??
