Can I please ask you -

do keywords you write by yourself on auction's generic landing page matter?

Do they really help the lander to be found via searches?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

I mean, in the description - the one you add at your discretion.

I wouldn't spend time on that.

When people want a domain they usually do one of the following

Visit the site

Go to whois

Call a company like godaddy

The reason you want to be in the marketplaces is because one a person discovers them and they want a name, they might end up searching the marketplace for other options

Hm... but that is presuming they know exactly what domain they want? But they can be as well just browsing in broad search of "maybe something short and nice about crypto or maybe blockchain"?..

Or stuff we type `by hand' in the description window doesn't get indexed by the auction's internal search or Google anyway?

This is an excellent question, and important to understand. Hopefully we can get some insight between Sedo, Dan, and Daaz on this forum. Each of these marketplaces does allow a description to be placed.

Does it make a difference? Have these companies or their marketplace users noticed any significant improvement in sales when good descriptions are provided? Or is it simply a waste of time?

And yes, let's see if anyone can tell us if these lander descriptions are indexed by Google? Do the keywords in it matter? If so, that may be important for an effective lander strategy?

My overall impression is what @AEProgram suggests--overall it may not be worth spending time on it. But perhaps there are others on this forum that have had a very different experience?

At DAN lander settings as below they claim that a good discription is excellent for better visibility in search engines .
But about getting indexed or no, still someone should try this to confirm .

Agree. Can anyoone confirm that that better visibility has happened in search engines when they tweaked their descriptions? Likewise, have they found the indexing happens, and, if so, if it has been helpful?

And also,
it would be great, of course, if the respected representative of Sedo, GoDaddy, Afternic etc. could say their word and clarify this officially.

Excellent idea!

There are members on this forum that believe that the descriptions don't seem to matter. If there are others that have found otherwise, this would be extremely helpful information.

If your domain is say "Cheap Holidays" .com no matter what you put in that description block you are never going to rank anywhere near the first page for such competitive keywords.....

If you own a unique brandable were no site is built using another extension and the handle is taken on Pinterest, Instagram, FB etc etc and is active then you have a good chance of getting on page 1 but probably not the top 3 spots due to Social Media company sites having such a high DA score......this imo would be irrespective if you wrote a description or not

If you have brandable/really low or zero competitive keyword/s domain and there is no active Social Media account using it and you have a sales lander set up then you should be in with a good shot of getting one of those top 3 spots....

Personally I don't think it matters that much with regards to ranking, they might want you to put one in for the meta description to show in the SERP's....if you don't they just use their own generic template version....

I think all the above is more relevant for DAN landers, Sedo and Afternic not so much/if at all - don't think those 2 put to much effort into it ....

Thanks for the insights.

I've noticed that Dan listings do appear on various web searches. They do appear to put an effort into the visibility of their listings. Also, @LaszloSchenk did kindly provide his reponse to this on the DAN Markeptlace forum, and indicated that support may help with discussing options.

Let's see if the other marketplaces provide any insights regarding their experiences. Note that I did not include Afternic, as I was unaware of any option on their landers to provide a description. If that has changed, please let me know.

This is a great question, and one I've never really thought about. Honestly, I never thought it mattered, so I've never put descriptions into my domain listings.

As others have mentioned, I do believe it's gonna be pretty hard to get your names indexed and ranked in Google for anything with somewhat decent search volume (even in the couple hundred per month range) just because you put a unique description in there. Does it let you set Meta Title/Description tags? Are you able to bold any of the font? How many characters is it limited to? If the domain had tons of great backlinks or it's an extremely noncompetitive term then maybe. In the screenshot above DAN says it can help you in search engines, but not on their own platform.

I'd almost be more interested in knowing if putting a unique description in there would help you rank higher in marketplace searches. If so, it could help you rank a domain like CheapestHotelRooms for a popular search term like "Hotel" in the marketplace which still probably gets a good amount of searches in a month. There are probably thousands of domains listed on the marketplaces with "Hotel" in them and it'd be cool if there was a way to outrank a bunch of those people. You definitely aren't parking a domain and getting it ranked in Google for "Hotel"...

No big surprise DAN says putting it in can help you get indexed and ranked. I'd put the same thing in there because technically it can help, but for the most part in terms of Google search it isn't going to. You need lots more than just a 300 word unique description to rank in the SERPS for anything that's really getting a decent amount of searches. I'd be more interested in putting unique descriptions in each of my domains if DAN said it can help you rank in DAN searches, because I know probably 99% of the domains listed on there DON'T have unique descriptions in them and I could easily take lots of names and get them ranked for GREAT terms that probably get a good amount of searches each month on the marketplaces themselves.
