I believe You mean 4 character names, and they generally only have value if they imply a certain meaning -- model number, cultural reference, etc. If you mean 4 letter non-pronouncables, then the value depends heavily on the quality of the letters, with all premium letters garnering a value of 5x reg fee with upward momentum

In the future, they will get more value... there value is on the rise slowly right now.

you need to know the culture. For example the chinese likes to use numbers. Take an example 5i5j , it does not seem to be a good name, but the sound of it makes a phrase
that is strong brandable.

Unless you know your market very well, it would probably be a good idea to avoid 4 character domains with numbers and letter combinations. It would be a safer bet to go with LLLL.com domains. I found SIQK.COM on DYYO.com yesterday.

Generally:
LLLL.com=value
LNLL.com=no value unless specific meaning to the domain

I think that's right and also VURG above has shown that with some imagination it is still possible to find something in the remaining (and dropping) LLLL.com bucket. For non-pronounceable LLLL you might consider the acronym possibilities and the 'look/shape' of the letter combo eg a combo ending in T seems more pleasing than one ending in H.
