The other RJ (Ron Jackson, the editor of DN Journal) has this to say about the journal's paid-for-sales-only non-dotcom non-country-code weekly chart called 'Global Contenders' (text shown here with my emphases; for the original domain-focused highlighting please click here):
---------------------------------------------------------
...
.Mobi has been dominating the Global Contenders chart the past few weeks and this week the extension for mobile devices turned in its strongest outing to date, sweeping 22 of the 30 entries on our expanded chart. Very impressive considering the new extension is going head to head with the long established .net and .org TLDs. .Mobi took 8 of the top 10 spots. The first fifteen names on the GC list all made the all-extension leader board you saw earlier so we won't detail those again.

The three highest sales you haven't seen were also .mobis, led by #16 Gas.mobi at $9,100, #17 Translate.mobi at $8,100 and PDA.mobi, a name that tied Notebook.org at #18 after going for $8,000. Of the scraps .mobi left behind, seven positions went to .net while .org eked out just one.
...
---------------------------------------------------------

I already posted the headline stats in nrmillions's thread and only half-jokingly pointed out it's not really a fair fight.

Yes, this is a direct result of the premium auctions; but given we regularly take the flak for the official registry daring to extract value and re-invest the proceeds from premium auctions in building tools and otherwise promoting the use of the extension, why not take the compliments from such a respected voice in domaining as well.

Compliments? Yes he was acknowledging the facts in terms of paid-for sales, but he also referred to .mobi as "the extension for mobile devices"

And he is not the only industry leader to use words to that effect, but more on that later.

Well said.

But what I also hear are still loud sounds of discord on that issue.

And that's quite understandable for now. In six months though, it won't be.

Will 2007 finish with a .mobi on top of the annual Global Contenders Chart?

Just looked at the Year-To-Date Global Contenders chart.

The top ten look like this:

1. RealEstate.net $300,000 Pvt Sale 2/6/07
2. DIY.net $200,000 DomainClub.org 11/13/07
3. Chinese.net $180,000 Sedo 8/7/07
4. Ringtones.net $175,000 Moniker 8/7/07
5. Poker.mobi $150,000 Moniker/ T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 12/11/07
6. Ringtones.mobi $145,000 Moniker/ T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 12/11/07
7. Sportsbook.mobi $129,800 Pvt Sale 1/16/07
8. Travel.info $116,000 Sedo 7/24/07
9. News.mobi $110,000 Moniker/ T.R.A.F.F.I.C. 11/27/07
10. Hosting.mobi $101,000 Sedo 11/4/07

Yes 5 out of the top 10 are mobis.

More interestingly though, the top spot is still wide open at only $300k.

It only takes the $401,500 games.mobi (or indeed the contested $616k music.mobi) to be paid for before the annual roundup issue...

Nothing has been posted in this forum for several days now regarding which of the competing parties is more likely to get music.mobi.

Is no news good news, or is games.mobi the only realistic .mobi candidate for the top spot in this year's Global Challengers chart?

The news of the week is ... there is no news!

There were about 13 very active threads here ten days ago, all with at least slightly different takes on what happened in the third round of Sedo's premium .mobi auction and who the real winners were.

All of a sudden all went quiet last week.

Can we assume that non-disclosure agreements are being signed, solutions are found and payments are pending?

If we don't hear anything soon, would that be a reasonable assumption?

P.S. Before asking the question I did check for news from the most likely sources, including Costa's blog but nothing seems to have been posted anywhere for about a week now.

In case you are wondering who Costa is, he is the gentleman who started the now famous NP thread entitled:

"I bid $611,000 for music.mobi - Lawsuit Pending"

Hoping everything works out well for everyone involved, and wishing everyone Happy Holidays!

The FIRST thing a lawyer would tell anyone - first round winners, second round winners, Mtld or Sedo - is to shut up. There is nothing to be gained by posting thoughts or plans and anything posted could be used against them.

So no, it is not indicative of a settlement. And if the lawyers run true to form they will prance around as long as they can justify to run up their bills (known as "due diligence") before sitting down to work this out. The one advantage is that everyone will get a chance to cool down and start thinking in terms more practical.

I had hope that creative minds at Sedo / Mtld would see this as an opportunity to sell replacement domains to those who bought for investment. But if those in charge are common business drones who think CYA is the highest level of business skill then they will let the lawyers run it, and it will be year(s) before music.mobi is developed by anyone. I would hope Mtld would find that unacceptable.

i believe Alvaro publicly invited 'musicdotmobi' to contact him.
whether he did or not, who knows.
either way, it's best if they keep schtum and hopefully come to an agreement privately they can go to sedo with.

either way, it is a name that needs to get out there and be known, not gathering dust on a lawyers desk.

fingers crossed, the names that are in dispute will all be sorted one way or other sooner rather than later.

Right, I can post now. I have now seen this from several sources as being purported as coming from Sedo on Friday of last week and sent to the 'winners' of the 2nd auction:

............."All domain transfers involved in this particular auction have been temporarily frozen by dotMobi registry. At this time, no transfers will take place until this situation is resolved. An official statement will be going out soon made by Sedo and dotMobi. If any further action is required by you, your transfer agent will contact you. Your transfer agent will also send you an update with regards to the transfer when appropriate. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us".............

It would seem that the chances are that there is more chance of finding a snowball in hell as this getting resolved before the end of year round-up of sales.

Note that it was .Mobi who have frozen the transfers and not Sedo.

Legal exchanges have obviously started and it is now up to .mobi to decide how they wish to proceed, but immediate injunctions would more than likely be sought should .mobi try to transfer the domains to the winners of the second auction. Undoubtedly such injunctions would be granted, therefore .Mobi would try to avoid that situation.

In light of the news that the entire 3rd round of the Sedo auctions has to be re-run in late January, it seems certain that we'll have to settle for only dominating the weekly Global Contender charts.

For now.
