DIY Dropcatching

I'm not sure if this is possible, and (if it is), I imagine it's a very closely guarded secret. Regardless, there's no harm in asking. :)

On Saturday I identified a couple of nice domains that were set to drop that day. I devoted most of my saturday night / evening to refreshing whois.sc and whiz.in regularly to see when they became available to register. I wasn't successful. Didn't get any. What's more, it looks like two of the ones I had my eye on were actually bagged by the same person!

Question is... Is there any way of knowing roughly WHEN they'll be dropped?
I mean, is there a normal time of the day when these deletions take place?
Or is there a way of checking to see roughly how long before a particular domain is deleted? like, (domain expected to drop in 5-6 hours)

Today I'm in the very same situation as I was on Saturday. I've identified 7 domains dropping today that I'd quite like to register.

Right now they're all "PendingDelete", and according to the website they're all set to drop TODAY.

Is there anything I can do to better my chances at atleast registering one of them?

One of the domains dropping today is KSYO.COM

I'm prepared to devote another evening to refreshing pages, but do I really have any chance doing it this way? I'm starting to wonder if there is something else, some secret method, that I stand no chance competiting with..

Thank you

Most names are snapped by snapnames and pool

Forget DIY dropcatching in extensions like .com.
For ccTLDs it's possible.

How is it that pool and snapnames manage to get hold of these domains before anyone else? Do they have special registring robots that snatch them as soon as they become available? Or do they have some kind of special arrangement with the folks in charge of deletion...

That's why they are big boys. Any domain name thats valuable won't just drop free to world. You need to backorder a name if you want it. :tu:

Backordering rarely works though.

Is there a way of scanning for dropped .IN / .CO.IN domains?

I have tried to catch and register a number of UK domains myself. I found how soon they are deleting by using software called Domain research tool (DRT), but I dodn't have much luck getting the good ones.
One resource that I found quite useful was http://www.whythink.co.uk/ I wanted a domain that was already registered, they found who owned it and contacted the owner for me. He rejected my offer but it was nice to be able to telephone a company for some free advice.

If any one has some advice on DIY catching fro UK domains I would be v grategul :hi:
