The executives at Walt Disney Co. must be doing handstands. Jonas Brothers fans turned up in droves Friday night. The premiere of "Camp Rock" on Disney Channel averaged 8.9 million viewers.

"Camp Rock" becomes the No. 2 most-watched movie premiere in the channel's history, the channel announced Saturday.

"High School Musical 2" averaged 17.2 million when it debuted last August on Disney Channel. But, of course, that sequel had millions primed to tune in. The original "High School Musical" drew 7.8 million when it premiered in January 2006.

"Camp Rock" becomes the No. 1 entertainment show on cable in the 2007-08 TV season.

Disney Channel was also the No. 1 network from 8 to 10 p.m. Runner-up CBS averaged 5.8 million in the same time slot.

"Camp Rock" has the potential to become a far bigger event this weekend. The movie will repeat at 8 p.m. Saturday on ABC and at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC Family.

Oh, and the movie should make the popular Jonas Brothers trio even hotter. Brace yourself, parents, for requests for Jonas Brothers merchandise.

Interestingly, CampRock.com is owned by Mr. Frank Schilling.

Perhaps, his asking price was too high for Disney

Thank you Frank!

They use a subdomain like everyone else,

http://mobile.disney.go.com

Lets face it though movies have often come out with weird and wonderful url's, hyphens, .net, myspace addresses. Disney using a .mobi domain for the mobile site of watch at home movie is not big news.

Not for branding. For branding, they elected to use .mobi. Now if .com PPC schemes are important to you, then the fact that Disney brands in .mobi isn't important to you. But if you're looking for .mobi milestones, then Disney's use of .mobi for branding is just another positive step forward by another household name. I know that eats at you snoop, for whatever reason, but it is what it is, and no amount of negative badgering by you is going to change positive progress.

They have used .mobi for two movies only, for everything else they use regular addresses. It is not accurate to say "disney brands in .mobi" when they cases are exceptions rather than the rule.

2 is not a bad start. I suspect we will be seeing more from Disney in the future.

Yes, they have used .mobi for two movies only. How many movies have they released since .mobi was first available (June 2006)? You know what that means? It means yes, indeed they are branding in .mobi.

well, i wouldn't just say 2 movies, these are 2 of their most successful movies and brands, those that target a specific demographic group ... the group most likely to come of age along side the mobile web.

Here is a list of current and past major releases, how many are being promoted with a .mobi url? Looks like approx 2 out of 25 and with one of those those the .mobi site still wasn't the official page (HSM2).
