I have recently read that the drone industry is trying to change the word "drone" to something different.

The word "drone" has a very bad rep. for obvious reasons.

What do you think will happen with the word "drone" and drone domain names?

We use cars and planes out of personal necessity or vanity in some cases. But at the end of the day those vehicles are for individual benefit. They allow us to do things like transport food, see doctors, go to school...

Amazon wants to use drones to increase profit for the company. A package arriving in 2 hours or 2 days wont change anyone's life but the delivery method will increase company profits. I suppose we can keep debating it, meanwhile the option to select delivery via drone in my cart doesn't exist. I suspect the option will never become available either.

What about cargo planes? Courier drivers, pizza deliveries, good deliveries, I could go on.

Vehicles of all sorts are used for transport. Most, if not all, operate out of necessity and for the greater good of the entire population. The only real beneficiary of drone delivery service is the operating company. It's a way to boost profits while offering little to the consumer. A few hours vs a few days for package delivery is no big deal. Especially when you realize that only small items can be quickly delivered and safely handled.

Are these small items worth the risk of a malfunctioning machine or the lack of privacy while they zip around residential neighborhoods? No thanks, I'll wait the extra 1 day for ground delivery.
