Did it drop or am I stupid?

So, I usually go through a list of domains I am going to put a backorder on. I saw on some site (don't remember what) that VRSpa.com was dropping. I put an order through SnapNames.com and it got outbid. (3 bidders).

But when I check VRspa.com it doesn't seem to have dropped?

it expired but it was not deleted and thus it did not drop.

Drop = Domain goes to PendingDelete and is deleted and re-recreated by the dropcatcher. This resets the registration date.

Expired= Domain did not get renewed and is auctioned off. If no bids it goes to PendingDelete and drops.

The registration date does not reset if you buy it before it drops.

yours was probably an expired domain.

If it didn't drop, how was I able to catch it with SnapNames?

Snapnames have partnerships with many registrars and they give the registrar a percentage of the sale price if they auction their expiring domains with them.

+ NameJet was merged with SnapNames... so their friendly registrars were added as well.

Snapnames also allows selling names via auctions (non-expiring). Moniker is, in fact, one of their partners. There's an option within Moniker's interface allowing you to auction names directly on Snapnames. It is possible VRSpa was a private seller's auction domain and not a dropping/expiring domain

Uhhhh... according to your record there, it did delete/drop, with a new creation date of 2/14/17 and all the other dates being year 2019.

Am I misunderstanding something in your post UNX?

It's in a pre-release auction at Snapnames. If you bid for this domain before the deadline, you should find the auction running in your Snapnames account. Probably ending in a couple of days.

The year was confusing - the name was updated and the new expiration went to 2019 not 2018 as would be expected with normal registrar extension which is why it kinda looked like redemption to me - either owner redeemed and registrar did not get refund for added year yet *OR* owner redeemed and added a year for good measure.

• On day 35 after expiration the domain will be queued up for auction on SnapNames and will be set to X-AUCTION = 3.

• If there is no successful auction until day 43 after expiration, the domain name will be restored to the old contact and nameserver information and will then be deleted at the registry.

From January 10, 2017 to February 14, 2017 Result: 35 days

PS yes @forge the format got futzed - BulkSEO shows horizontal results so it's hard to read - Updated Date...2017-02-14, not Creation Date

Yes that's a bug in that registrar family, but I'm not complaining!

The current whois contacts belong to the registrar. They will change to the auction winner in a day or two.
