Can big companies (media giants) who owns dictionary words
as domains (car.com, book.com, rent.com, senior.com, estate.com, the valuable stuff ...) sue other people/companies when they have a translation of those valuable words in other languages? or those same words with another TLD?
Thanks in advance for the information!

I think you should be ok as long as it is a generic word.

If they have a trademark for those translations, yes.

Can you have a trademark on a pure dictionary word? (so not an extra sign/symbol/lettre/sound) The name I'm talking about is www.sénior.com,
Spanish for "senior". There is a site www.senior.com , they are going to launch this year. My plan with the Spanish domain, sénior.com, is to build an online community for Spanish-English speaking seniors, there are a lot of Spanish speaking people on the internet (and growing) and I want to deliver a good service to them.

I think you are talking about a purely generic word and term uttered millions of times a day and in spanish language books and newspapers daily. There are 373 million google returns for that word, english or spanish, so I think you would be way down on hit list should someone want to contest you to begin with.

And BRAVO to you for wanting to do such a service!

As my attorney once told me when I asked a similar "can they sue" question, "Anyone can sue anyone for anything. It's whether they're likely to win that's the question." You have to ask yourself if you have the stomach and/or wallet to deal with them if they start to hassle you. That's a call that only you can make. Good luck!
