I'm thinking of buying a major City .Org
The price is fair - but i was wondering on your opinions as towhether this would be a good extension to develop on.
The .Com is developed (sites rubbish) and so are quite a few of the other extensions.
i think .Org works well with Geo names - i'm just not sure though
Some stats on the name are below.

Google Adwords - Over 2.5 million searches a month
wordtracker - over 1800 searches a day

Thanks for any opinions.

If I were you, I'd do it. good luck
Cityname.org is a good name to develop.

Here's the pecking order, imo:

.com
.net/.org
.info (maybe)

everything else, I'd pass.

Think org works better with insitutions and info works better for locations myself.

Still, a cityname .org is still good and worthy of development especially as you mentioned the poor state of the .com

Developing a city geo is a LOT of work though.. given the amount of content you need to add to make it worthwhile. I'm not overly impressed with the value of city-portal scripts out there either.

Yep, I would do it in a heart beat with a .org! People get the warm fuzzy feeling when seeing a .org and I think SE's like .org just as much as .com .

I think info is better

Buy it and develop it in to a much better site than com, hopefully local advertsing interest may turn to you. ORG would be my 2nd choice if com was taken.
