Detecting nulled scripts?

I have a reseller account from which I have given an account to a particular user.
He has installed IPB and VBulletin.
I have a feeling they are nulled scripts.
So how do I verify whether they are nulled or not?

If No Numbers Are In There Then Its Nulled

I always contacted IPB and jelsoft directly when I ran a free hosting service. I always found it strange that users needed a free hosting service but could afford a license for IPB or VB..
Send them an email with the domain the forum is installed on and ask them to confirm if it's legit. licenses are per domain so they can easily tell you if it is nulled versions.
9 times out of 10 when I enquired they were nulled scripts.

I don't remember well for VB but if you go to the smth like /install/upgrade1.php it will display you to enter the client no otherwise it's nulled. But it would only work if the board admin is stupid enough to leave the install directory and it's a VERY big security issue with null boards having upgrade1.php undeleted.

It would be much better if you have root access. You will just need to do the locate command.

If you want to check for nulled scripts where you have root access so that your users don't violate your terms, open up the php files and see it in a editor, nullers always leave something like "Nulled By blblblablmafia" on everypage as a php comment.

i tooks as tho that install of the script is illegal as it have no license number

It looks like the only alternative left for me is to look for traces in the php scripts for terms like "Nulled by xyz"
So it is very easy for anyone to install a nulled VBulletin script.
Also do the MODS work on nulled scripts?Don't the MODS check for the validity of the forum script?

If the user wants to download a Mod directly from the vB site then yes, it checks. But sometimes they can still get hold of this through other means.

I suggest emailing the respective script company (vB or IPB) abuse department to check if the domain in question has a valid license. They usually reply quickly and will tell you authoritatively if it's legal or not instead of searching manually.

Thanks a lot for the info.
One that i realized is that until and unless VB actually runs a check on the domain there is no way of identifying whether a forum script is nulled or not.

I run a free host and all I have to do is locate one file like vbulletin_menu.js and cut it with a delimiter to get the username and just pipe it to terminate.

Easy as that since I have never seen any person have a legitimate VB using free hosting in 3 years of running free hosting businesses.

Do updatedb and then, locate vbulletin_menu.js | cut -d "/" -f(x) | uniq

(x) meaning a number.

Say one person with vB has a username with hello. It will be the 2nd field. /home/hello

I did have an IPB license in Ahplace, ZestNetwork. So, you didn't know about me propably, but I did use it few days on it. I contacted the admins to verify the license before started to use it on free hosting. Personally I didn't have more money to spend on that project, so I used free hosting. It's not always about that if you use a free hosting that you don't have money.

But most best way is to verify it from vbulletin or IPB. If I had free hosting I would require every customer to verify their licenses before installing it on the server. Scripts can be easily cheated and I have no doubt, that even the checker scripts can be cheated. But vbulletin and ipb customer support can't be. They have list of customers and the list tells who bought it and who didn't.
