Very true. And let us take an example of mortgage.com. A really generic type in name. A wordtracker count shows a daily type in predict of 125. That means, even for such a huge generic type in, one can expect just around 125 actual type-ins a day. Even s#x.com has a max type in of around 3300 per day. And btw, these domains cost big bucks to buy. In short, you would need thousands (maybe hundreds of thousands) of dollars to actually buy a pure non typo type-in generic name with atleast a 100 type-ins a day. And after this big buy from the secondary market, what do you expect would your returns from domain parking to be? A max of some 100 bucks a day.

Parking companies understandably, love the pure type in generic names, which they agree are of the highest quality and get targeted visitors looking to buy a niche product/service. But, in return, do they even offer you a decent dollar CPC for such a targeted domain name? Most likely..No.

Sad.. but true... most parking companies expect the world out of our domains and give us a pittance in return.

They need :

Pure generic type ins
Preferably no backlinks
No ad campaigns to get visitors in
and a long list of do's and don'ts

And after all these requirements are met, you end up getting the 20 cents or even lower CPC, unless you have some domains targeted to money markets/debt consolidation and a few other niches.

I think I'm beginning to see a very bleak picture here .... lol.. I need to get a break this weekend in the shenandoah mountains...

You hit the nail on the head...Varon...Excellent Post :tu:

I think we are now beginning to see the "Reality" of internet traffic.

Your numbers on Mortgage.com prove that, "Pure Typin traffic" is lowest way to generate an income from a domain name, There are a few things i know pertaining to parking companies, or some of them any way, They make revenue for just showing ads, some make revenue from sales -CPA , that comes from other peoples parked names that are in thier network, So they generate several streams of revenue, Just by letting some one park there names at that thier network, Even if the names never get a click, This is why alot parking services are not as concerned with the quality of a portfolio, Once the parker has set the nameservers to that parking service, And the ads are being displayed, The parking service is making a stream of revenue, Just for showing those ads, Doesn't matter if they get traffic... This same method works with RSS feeds aswell... If they didn't make streams of of revenue, without the domain parker getting clicks, They would be broke and out of business. So the sooner we cut out all the BS, and cut to the chase here, We will be making strides in the right direction, And domainers will then know what thier parking options are, And whom they may want to consider using as thier domain parking service, This is about the domainers, I can't speak for anyone else other than myself, That isn't right, But i Persnonally, want to know what my exact options are with domain parking companies, And i expect answers, with out certain things being swept under the rug, I don't think that is asking a whole lot, And i have the up most respect for domain parking companies, rather i feel i can do business with them or not...I am hoping that more parking Reps will take an invitation into this thread with open arms.

Hey,

We were represented on two panels at DRT in Seattle this week, but I appreciate that not everyone has access to what went on there, so I'd be happy to offer my services for a chat if we can find a convenient time. I'm on European time, so may be a little less accessible, but I could always get one of our US guys to look in if it makes it more convenient for the rest.
I know that Badger is only one hour behind me, but he seems to never sleep ;)

So far we have got inputs from Donny(parked), Mike(fabolous),Badger(imodo) and Ed from Namedrive correct me if i missed anyone. We have seen where these guys stand about this issue i hope more reps will show up in near feture.
IMO, CY why dont you put together their input so We as Domainers we can be able to see which comapany fit us most regarding with legit/illegit traffics , it will also help us to know which method will be consider as ethical to which company and hence reduce "unnoticed banned' from these companies.

So far the results seem to be as follows below VVV

Donny made Parked.coms position completely clarified, We can use pay per click means to drive traffic to landers at Parked.com, As long as the traffic is completely legit.

Mike , Made it clear that Fabulous.com insists on high level traffic, And using pay per click methods are strictly prohibited by Fabulous.com

Badger, Has not really touched base on iMoDo.com , Rather pay per click traffic is acceptable or unacceptable, And what the exact origion of traffic will be allowed into the program.

Ed, Has shown us NameDrives acceptable traffic policy being Allowed:
In general, these are the main sources of traffic we allow.
Type in / Direct Navigation
Search engine traffic (from existing links before the name was parked)
Expired traffic (i.e. hyperlinks, again before the name was parked)

So i will assume that no pay per click method is acceptable by NameDrive, Unless Ed, Post otherwise

That is what i have gotten so far from the parking companies that have participated in this thread, If i am wrong, please correct me someone.

Any traffic that is not paid for. I'd even consider some banner ads and text ads to drive illegitimate traffic if the user thinks they are going to get something else (e.g. the "click the mosquito to get rid of the annoying noise" banners drive tons of illegitimate traffic).

Exactly..."The click The Mosquito To Get Rid Of The Annoying Noise Banner"

Are not legit traffic, and could possibly be classified as "Squatting"

Banner advertising -VS- Link advertising are two worlds apart.

Great :) Thanks for your interest Ed. That is a nice gesture. If we have some other parking company management also show interest in this, we could have a very useful chat session on namepros. The chat transcripts could be later posted and would prove very useful.

Can the mods help us out with this?

Whew... what a great Idea.
A mini Traffic Conference right here at NamePros.

Ed, thank you for being the first to step up to the plate on this... :tu:

Although the logistics are going to be a nightmare,
I think we could pull this off given enough time.

Peace,

I'm waiting to hear back from The Top Dawgs on this...
This would require approval and a lot of setup so feel free to post to Management your opinions whether this is a good thing or not. :talk:

As soon/if it is approved I will start with the logistics.

We will need an agenda and moderation format, so if anyone has thoughts on this input would be appreciated.

If anyone can make this happen, It is You...Cyber :)

In my opinion, The agenda would first and foremost, Be to establish each individual parking companies position on acceptable traffic with thier specific company, Once that has been achieved, Perhaps speak on monetization, What is up and coming from each parking service, New templates, A better based layout more attractive to help PPC and ect. Just a few quick thought there.

Kenny, If Ron will permit, I will help you in every facet of getting this together, aswell as moderation, I truly believe this event will help domainers in general, and establish very valuable , Informative information for all of us.

So the names you purchased for as much as $1,000 have traffic, That is understandable, But those names were new borns at one time themselves, Therefor they had to be raised and nurtured, Just as any new domain does

Actually no, Several of my traffic domains aren't even indexed in search engines. They get 100% type in traffic because the name is good. Thats why I bought them. My point is parking is for premium names. Anything less than premium isn't going to earn its own reg fee.

Varon said:
My question is, considering the current situation, is it safe to conclude that domaineers buying new domains with no type in value should just dismiss parking their domains and look to development or else just leave their domains idle with no revenue generation till a sale?

Yes, I'm not sure what makes some people think that just because their name sounds good or would be a great site developed that it deserves to make money parking. When you park a domain you are selling something. You are not selling how cool the name sounds or how great a site it could be. You are selling the traffic that name receives. If the name doesn't receive any natural traffic, you don't have anything to sell.

Whoa there, This has got to be the most innacurate stat I have EVER seen. I own a far less premium name that gets more typeins than that. Two word combo in vietnamese and a .biz to boot. My name averages almost 200 typeins a day. Maybe some of the parking company reps in this thread would like to comment on this one. I know you can't give specifics but I'd like to know approximately how many typeins a real premium name like mortgage.com would average.

Thanks.

Sure, that would also help us understand the accuracy of the wordtracker tool. Remember, that mortgage.com receives its majority of traffic from its more than 8000 backlinks and ofcourse via advertising. The type-ins are more for sex.com rather than mortgage.com. And believe me, wordtracker is pretty accurate about this. I'm not making up figures... :) mortgage.com holds its value not so much for its type-in value but more for its word associated brand value. Just like sex.com.

If you don't mind, what is this 2 word vietnamese combo you are talking about that gets 6000 type-ins a month with no backlinks?

What is your defination of a "Premuim Domain Name" I didn't start domaining yesterday, I started in the year 2000, Regging names on a regular basis that is, I actually regged my first name is 1996. I have owned a several 3 letter .coms, several 3 letter .nets, Generic .coms and the list goes on, I don't claim to be savvy domainer, But i do know this industry some what...So what you are saying, Your name gets 200 complete typins a day, No one is finding your name anywhere, People just happen to love your name, So all the sudden, they type it into thier browser, and they end up on your page...Correct? Then...They love your page so much, that they click links...correct??

If all that is the case, Then you are one very lucky person, Because that does not happen to many of us, Like i said before, YES, there are names that get pure typin traffic daily, But those names are of the most premuim domains in the industry, $500,000 names ... 1 million dollar ++ names, Some of those get a substantial amount of daily typin traffic, Names of lessor value do to aswell, So i am not saying you are exaggerating, I am saying, If what you are saying is true, You are one very lucky person, This isn't the norm, Not even for very good names can accomplish that, I know people who have been in this industry since it began, And don't have names that get 200 pure typins a day, That have been registered since 1996 -97-98 .

Any domain name, Can be nurtured and raised to produce traffic, I don't care if it is "hjeuryryryfxcjus.com" It can be done, I have seen it done. It is knowing how to advertise and market a name, That makes it, or breaks it. So all that stuff you wrote in your second paragraph, Makes not one lick of sense of to me.

Well spoken..Varon

And i checked the wordtracker on the name aswell, as well as did some research on it, And as you say, The vast majority of the traffic that mortgage.com receives, is from the 8000 backlinks it carries

Exactly, btw, the word mortgage is not used worldwide. It is more popular in North America. For example, in India, they use the term home loans and not mortgage. There are more type-ins for adult names and actor/actress names, but this does not take away the value of a name like maps.com or news.com. These are word value names that command a higher price for their vast usefulness index and not simply for their type-in value.

I have noticed that adult names have more type-ins. Like the term "freeporn.com" gets around 400 type-ins a day. The other factor being that most people wouldn't actually like to have a porn site bookmarked on their computer. So they prefer typing it in each time they desire to visit the site. But with sites like google.com, you have many people bookmarking it. So it may be surprising that google.com is actually typed in just around 66,000 times a day.

I could go on... :) its so very interesting and I'm glad blaknite got this topic up. I was about to get to bed and this kept me awake...lol.
