Tonight at work I was one of the gas attendents. I had 3 cars going and a guy pumping his own. He kept pulling the collar of his coat up to hide his face. I thought to myself, its not THAT cold out here...

Well I look away for one second and the guy is done and in his Yukon and starting to pull away. I yelled and he stopped and asked What!? I said hey you need to pay. He said yeah I am pulling over there so others can get gas. I told him he could just hurry and pay me but he kept going. Well we was busy and he couldnt get out of the lot fast enough so I got his plate number. He finally took off so I went in and called the police. They came and took the info.

Thing is we are in PA and his plate was from WV. The way he was headed was towards the highway, so looks like he is going to get away with $30 worth of gas. If he is ever caught in this area by the local police he has a surprise coming. He will face a fine of $2.500, 1 year in jail, or both.

I should start posting his plate number and vehicle info all over the net listing him as a theif!

Glad to hear you got the license number. Seems like you have quite a few interesting gas station stories.

I had a run-in with a thief tonight as well (in PA... hmm...). I work at a grocery store as a cashier. A man came in, he was very nice and friendly, and his bill was $50.01. To save us both the aggravation of having 99 cents change, I gave him a penny I had. I handed him his change (he paid with a large bill), and he started to walk out. He quickly turned around, flashed me a few bills (about $8) and asked if he could have his $20 dollar bills I supposedly hadn't given him. Thinking I had gotten caught up in the conversation, I apologized and handed him $40, and I never saw him or heard of him ever again. I was written up and will most likely be suspended since my drawer was $40 short! :(

Speaking of theives, I had a run-in a few weeks ago. Some guy broke into my Blazer one night at my friend's apartment and stole the only two things I had in there - my CD player (right out of the dash) and some CDs. It was obviously a pro since there was a pinhole size spot where he went in right under the passenger door handle. He pulled the CD player right out of the dash and broke the harness. He also grabbed some CDs I had in the visor. Most of the CDs are useless because they're burnt or scratched fairly bad but he got away with a CD that my GF gave me.

Contact the police and ask them were in in WV the plates are registered in, then call that towns local police department and report it. Also this is an old scam where you replace your plate with another states plates and pump and dump....the plates will most likely end up belonging to a different type of vehicle if this is the case. Also if you give me his plates and information I can do some digging. :)

At least the police will come for gas runners there.
They won't come to our local Husky anymore because
they've had so many the cops said they have "other" things
to do. (it's real close to a Tim Hortons) So they told them they won't come anymore unless there is a threat of violence by the runner...
best yet, they advertised this on our local news, needless to say
it was a bad mistake! Free gas all round! :D

I was in McDonalds one day and the guy in front of me did the same thing. He had a kid there and when he asked the kid how much the lady gave him, he told the truth, then his dad slapped him on his head. The lady at the cashier told the man to wait while they tally everything up, the guy then said, Oh, wait, I found the money.

I hate people like that.

I hope everything works out for you Etab, hopefully they'll understand.

Most of the Gas stations in the UK are self-serve, and with the high price of petrol in the UK (about a $1.50 a LITRE), it happens more often.

Attendants are obviously told not to try to stop them and instead just to give their license plate numbers into the police, but many are fake, some not even existing in the system.

Imagine what would happen with electric cars though! You'd just plug yourself into someone else's electric supply, like a neighbour you don't like

It'll only get worse unfortunately

Alot leave a rag over the plate or leave it flipped down if they're going to drive off..

I had a guy have his money blow away before he could put it in the drawer and he said he wasn't going to pay.. the weather is not my problem but he drove off anyway.
