Interesting.... Jerry Jones would've probably loved this domain name.

That is absolutely ridiculous they thought they were spending $275.00 on Cowboys.com LMAO.... Then to shrug it off and not even consider it for 275k, even dumber. They pay more than twice that much for big mouth TO to play each game.

I would have bought it without thinking twice if I was Jerry Jones.

Does the team NEED the domain though? And if it's ever used for TM infringment..they can get it by UDRP.

I agree, the cowboys obviously are not that stupid...they just didn't need it. Also, they don't LIVE in our domain world.

there's a follow up to the story on the site... The name "resold" at silent auction for more money

They will have a tough (prob. impossible) time getting it through UDRP unless someone tries to sell Dallas Cowboys apparel on there. Also, as explained in this excerpt from domain name news; the domain is much shorter and easier to place on jerseys, apparel, etc.. Not to mention the traffic that they are already missing out on. They don't live in a domain name world but the rest of the world is moving online. You have your opinion, I have mine: one stupid move (think you are bidding $275.00 LOL) followed by another.. :yell:

"The domain was formerly used a site which sold western apparel and other items, as can be seen in the archive.org cache of the site. Although the Dallas Cowboys football team owns a trademark for the use of the word Cowboys, there are also several other companies and businesses operating under the โ€œCowboysโ€ name. The domain is a generic word and itโ€™s past usage shows that it can be used without infringement on any trademarks.

The Dallas Cowboys NFL football team currently uses the domain name DallasCowboys.com, but is likely losing a great deal of traffic to the shorter and more iconic Cowboys.com domain. The football team owners have also been working on building a new multi-million dollar stadium and the purchase was referred to by domainers as a very logical decision for the team. The shorter domain would be much easier to emblazon on uniforms, tickets, apparel, stadium graphics, tv ads, etc. The loss of this sale seems to be a major fumble by a potential โ€œend-userโ€ buyer to secure a โ€œno brainerโ€ asset for their business."

Under no circumstances will the Dallas Cowboys obtain 'Cowboys.com' under UDRP. The new owners are very savvy and would not infringe on the Dallas Cowboys' mark. Simply put, the Dallas Cowboys made a huge error in judgement.

"In a stunning development yesterday the "Attorney" for the Dallas Football team said days later that he thought the price was $275 and not $275,000"

 shows the level of enduser awareness when it comes to the price of domains !

I'm beginning to think that 99% of end users still expect names like this to be sitting on the shelf waiting for them to pay their $8 reg fee.

Uhhh - Loans.com is taken WTH ! :o

:hehe:-, Anything is possible. Seriously though, the group will go in another direction with the name. I believe the site could be remade into a larger country & western retail store, with big angle on the country lifestyle.
