Hey all! I'm not sure where to post this but here goes. I'm currently playing around with HostGators Shared hosting (linux baby plan). I have a question about using shared hosting and adding domains. It seems my account is setup using one primary domain, let's say it's xyz (.) com. I want to add a domain using the addon domain feature in cpanel. Let's say I add xyz1 (.)net. So, now I can access both domains by typing xyz(.)com and xyz1(.)net. But, I can also get to xyz1(.)net by typing xyz1.xyz(.)com. This kinda makes sense but seems a bit goofy.

I just wanted to make sure this is the way it is and there's nothing I can do so you can't access the domain by using xyz1.xyz.com.

thats the way it is!

you could get a reseller account so that each domain has it's own cpanel account, or you could put a .htaccess in your root website with redirect rules.

realistically though, if you have no links to xyz1.xyz.com, no-ones going to type it in...

That's true, thanks for the confirmation! Repped.

That is because of shared hosting and you are hosting many domains under one account.

Addon domains are actually parked domains over sub domains.
That is it will create a subdomain xyz1.xyz.com and will park xyz1.net over the subdomain.

So it the back end it is a parked domain over a sub domain.

Yes if you want seperate accounts get a reseller many budget webhosts have good plans . Or you can add multiplical domains on most cpanel webhosts.
