I know quite a few people in that age range who have been vaccinated, including a few who have COPD, but I haven't heard any reports like that. Interesting possibility, though.

I came across where they're looking at an mRNA spray for cystic fibrosis. Whether that could suggest there could be some kind of link between his shot and his breathing....

I might've said that he could've been a long hauler, who didn't know he'd caught it but had breathing issues from it, and the shot helped deal with it. But it sounds like the breathing goes back before covid.

It doesn't sound like there's been a major difference, but a noticeable enough difference.

Some long haul COVID patients are feeling better after vaccination

    https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-03-haul-covid-patients-vaccination.html

"For many, it's like emerging suddenly from a long, dark tunnel"

"Some people who've been laid low for months by so-called "long haul" symptoms after a coronavirus infection say that within days of getting their COVID-19 vaccine, those symptoms nearly disappeared.

Speaking with The New York Times, Bridget Hayward, a 51-year-old operating room nurse in Alexandria, Va., said that for nearly a year after first becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2, she's had a slew of devastating symptoms. They've included persistent body aches, fatigue, a feeling of being hot even in cool weather, and a "brain fog" that rendered remembering even simple words difficult.

But then, just one day after her first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, everything changed.

"It was like, click, everything is fine," she said. Her body temperature has normalized and "it felt like a darkness lifted."

Anecdotal cases like this are popping up around the United States, elating patients and puzzling most experts.

Because long COVID is still a mysterious ailment to begin with, figuring out why vaccination is helping at least some patients recover is a black box of sorts, too"

It looks as though there are lots of promising applications for the mRNA technology.

Money, talent flowing into mRNA sector after COVID-19 success

"The success of COVID-19 vaccines based on messenger RNA (mRNA) is smoothing the way for using the novel technology not only in other vaccines, but possibly as treatments for cystic fibrosis, cancer and other hard-to-treat diseases."

Three days after getting vaccinated I still haven't noticed any side effects or adverse reactions.

The only thing that I have noticed is that maybe I have become a little smarter.
    :xf.smile::xf.wink::angelic:

I wonder if people should stick to getting the same kind of vaccine for future shots or is it better to try different kinds.

    IMO

Whatever it takes for the fear mongering media to add to the "death count" eh?

How about we start quantifying and calculating "life" and drumming that into the human consciousness? O_o

Number of COVID Vaccine Injuries Reported to VAERS Surpasses 50,000, CDC Data Show
VAERS data released today showed 50,861 reports of adverse events following COVID vaccines, including 2,249 deaths and 7,726 serious injuries between Dec. 14, 2020 and March 26, 2021.

    https://childrenshealthdefense.org/...tent&eId=8a2338f9-c91c-4d41-816c-8533cf90d2d8

Number is much higher as this is only what is reported....

Americans are super-spreaders of COVID-19 misinformation

Misinformation about COVID-19 is spreading from the United States into Canada, undermining efforts to mitigate the pandemic. A study led by McGill University shows that Canadians who use social media are more likely to consume this misinformation, embrace false beliefs about COVID-19, and subsequently spread them.

Many Canadians believe conspiracy theories, poorly-sourced medical advice, and information trivializing the virus—even though news outlets and political leaders in the country have generally focused on providing reliable scientific information. How then, is misinformation spreading so rapidly?

“A lot of Canadians are struggling to understand COVID-19 denialism and anti-vaccination attitudes among their loved ones,” says lead author Aengus Bridgman, a PhD Candidate in Political Science at McGill University under the supervision of Dietlind Stolle. According to the study, published in Frontiers in Political Science, these attitudes are partially the result of massive Canadian consumption of information from the United States.

The researchers analyzed the behaviours of the 200,000 most active Canadian Twitter users and conducted surveys on news consumption habits and COVID-19 beliefs of Canadians. They found that those who use social media are relatively more exposed to US-based information than domestic sources of information, and that exposure to US news outlets was associated with misperceptions about COVID-19.

A third of Covid-19 survivors suffer 'brain disease,' study shows

As many as one in three people infected with Covid-19 have longer term mental health or neurological symptoms, researchers reported Tuesday.

They found 34% of Covid-19 survivors received a diagnosis for a neurological or psychological condition within six months of their infection, according to the study published Tuesday in the journal Lancet Psychiatry.

The most common diagnosis was anxiety, found in 17% of those treated for Covid-19, followed by mood disorders, found in 14% of patients.

And while the neurological effects are more severe in hospitalized patients, they are still common in those who were only treated in an outpatient setting, the researchers note.

"That rate increased progressively as the severity of the Covid-19 illness increased. If we look at patients who were hospitalized that rate increased to 39%," said Maxime Taquet, an academic clinical fellow in psychiatry at the University of Oxford, and a co-author of the new study.

The results help light the way for how the healthcare system ought to continue helping Covid-19 survivors, the researchers said.

EU agency: Rare clots possibly linked to AstraZeneca shot

    https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-04-eu-agency-rare-clots-possibly.html

"The European Union's drug said Wednesday that it found a "possible link" between the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine and a rare clotting disorder but recommended that vaccinations continue in adults, saying the benefits of the shot still outweigh risks."

"The reported cases of unusual blood clotting following vaccination with the AstraZeneca vaccine should be listed as possible side effects of the vaccine," said Emer Cooke, the agency's executive director.
But it placed no new age restrictions on using the vaccine in people 18 and over, as some countries have done.

"The risk of mortality from COVID is much greater than the risk of mortality from these side effects.," Cooke said."

UK agency: Under-30s to be offered non-AstraZeneca vaccine

    https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/eu-agency-share-results-probe-astrazeneca-shot-76917854

"LONDON -- The United Kingdom's drug regulator says the AstraZeneca vaccine has huge benefits but people under 30 will be offered another product due to a rare blood clot risk.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency said Wednesday that while it is studying the possible connection between AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine and rare blood clots, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines should be offered to people in that age group.

Dr. June Raine, the head of he MHRA, says that the benefits “continue to outweigh the risks for the vast majority of people.”

The decision was announced soon after the European Union's drug regulator said it had found a “possible link” between the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine and a rare clotting disorder. But that agency did not recommend any new restrictions on the vaccine for people 18 and over, saying the benefits of the shot still outweigh risks."

Germany's Bavaria plans to buy Sputnik vaccine

    https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-04-germany-bavaria-sputnik-vaccine.html

"Germany's Bavaria region has signed a provisional agreement to buy doses of Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine once it is approved by European regulators, state premier Markus Soeder said Wednesday.

If the Sputnik vaccine is approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Bavaria is set to receive around 2.5 million doses in the summer through a company in the Bavarian town of Illertissen, Soeder said.

The German government said last month that it would be open to using Sputnik V if it is greenlit by the EMA."

Covid Cases Drop 96% In Nursing Homes After Vaccine Rollout, Study Reports

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/nichol...accine-rollout-study-reports/?sh=622fa7be7ef9

"Coronavirus cases dropped a whopping 96% in nursing homes between late December and early March, with deaths also falling over 90%, according to a study released Monday, showing what a trade group calls a massive impact made by vaccinations.

The study from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living credited "initial vaccine allocations" prioritized for nursing home patients and staff for drastically reducing Covid's impact.

The week of Dec. 20 saw the peak of Covid spread in nursing homes, according to the organizations, with more than 33,000 new cases and over 6,000 deaths.

But the week of March 7, which is the latest included in the study, had only 1,349 new cases and 547 deaths—marking a 91% decline in nursing home deaths since Dec. 20."

Brazil’s coronavirus death toll passes 4,000 a day for first time

Brazil’s coronavirus catastrophe has deepened further after more than 4,000 daily deaths were reported for the first time since the outbreak began in February last year.

At least 4,195 people were reported to have lost their lives on Tuesday, taking Brazil’s total death toll – the world’s second highest after the US – to nearly 337,000.

Brazil also reported 86,979 new infections. Experts fear a record 100,000 Brazilians could lose their lives this month alone if nothing is done.

Army’s own vaccine that could fight COVID variants begins clinical trials

A unique vaccine produced by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research started clinical testing Tuesday, and Army researchers hope it will combat variants of SARS-COV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

The vaccine, called spike ferritin nanoparticle, or SpFN, could also help fight other coronaviruses, a group of related RNA viruses that often cause respiratory-related diseases in mammals.

Army researchers have been tracking the threat posed by new coronaviruses even before the pandemic, according to Kayvon Modjarrad, director of emerging infectious diseases at Walter Reed. That threat has been accelerating in recent years.

“That’s why we need a vaccine like this: one that has potential to protect broadly and proactively against multiple coronavirus species and strains,” Modjarrad said in a statement announcing the SpFN testing.

The Defense Department has had a combined total of more than 271,000 COVID-19 cases. Of those, 3,814 people have been hospitalized and 332 people have died. Twenty-four of the dead have been service members and 11 have been dependents.

Papua New Guinea's COVID cases are driven by misinformation — we need tech companies to help

    Opinion, by Bernadette Yakopa.
Bernadette Yakopa is the Western Province Area Manager for Save the Children PNG
    ------

Here in Western Province in PNG, a stone's throw from the Australian mainland, things are looking alarming.

Cases and deaths from coronavirus are skyrocketing, and we are facing a misinformation pandemic on top of a COVID one.

Most Papua New Guineans get their information from Facebook, and much of it is incorrect.

Our social media has been overwhelmed with half-truths, misinformation, and outright lies. False statements are dressed up in intellectual language.

A seemingly harmless like or share doesn't stay online: it filters down to village and family levels where misinformation is retold as fact, or at the very least, speculation.

Israel may have achieved herd immunity against Covid-19

With 56% of citizens vaccinated and another 15% recovered, Israel may be the first country where people who are immune protect those who aren’t.

Israel may have achieved herd immunity against Covid-19
With 56% of citizens vaccinated and another 15% recovered, Israel may be the first country where people who are immune protect those who aren’t.

Herd immunity happens when a sufficient percentage of a population has immunity – through vaccination or having recovered from the disease — and gives indirect protection to those who aren’t immune.

The immunity level needed for herd immunity is calculated based on the transmission rate of the virus. For SARS-CoV-2 it’s estimated at 65-70 percent, says Dr. Eyal Leshem, director of Sheba’s Institute for Travel & Tropical Medicine.

Approximately 56% of Israel’s 9.2 million citizens are vaccinated and another 15% (approximately 700,000 people) recovered from Covid-19, putting Israel comfortably in the expected herd immunity range.
