Having relatives and friends scattered all over the globe, I am getting an overload of input (some on the record and some off the record).

My intention for this thread is for community members from around the world to post first hand stories and/or links to information sources that, for the most part, should be reliable.

In my community, just outside a major southeastern city, 'assets' have been placed. Only because I have friends in both high and low places have I heard about some of this. At this point it is only some basic medical supplies that should be equally distributed anyway in preparation for a natural emergency (hurricane/wildfire/etc.).

I will start with posting a link to a site with current data that seems to come from an aggregate of sources and hope others will do the same as they come across similar sites/pages.

Because of the 'typhoid Mary' spread-ability of this disease, I feel we may be in for a really large spread globally which will impact the global economy and through extension, retail domain prices.

One thing is for sure...things will get worse before they get better.

If not an accident, then it was either intentional or it made the leap to humans naturally. Either/Or.

WHO investigators say COVID-19 almost certainly didn't come from lab

At a briefing, the team said there's no definitive evidence yet to indicate the first human coronavirus transmission occurred at a market in Wuhan, but stated conclusively that it almost certainly didn't come from any lab.

One working assumption, he said, is that the virus jumped from an intermediary species to a human, possibly through cold chain products at the market.

"We are still working with the hypothesis that it could have been introduced by a person who was infected and then spread to other persons in the market," Embarek said. "But it could also be through the introduction of a product.

Thanks @Mister Funsky for this thread.

I did not even notice...it is only because thoughtful contributors like yourself have been consistent in finding and sharing relevant information.

Thanks to all of us for staying on top of this event...I've got no doubt that we have encouraged more than one person to prepare and/or to be more cautious and that action likely 'snowballed' from there. We should all take comfort in that we have done something good and helpful while keeping each other informed.

I think that climate change had something to do about it.

Climate change may have driven the emergence of SARS-CoV-2

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2021/02/210205085718.htm

"Global greenhouse gas emissions over the last century have made southern China a hotspot for bat-borne coronaviruses, by driving growth of forest habitat favoured by bats."

"A new study published today in the journal Science of the Total Environment provides the first evidence of a mechanism by which climate change could have played a direct role in the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study has revealed large-scale changes in the type of vegetation in the southern Chinese Yunnan province, and adjacent regions in Myanmar and Laos, over the last century. Climatic changes including increases in temperature, sunlight, and atmospheric carbon dioxide -- which affect the growth of plants and trees -- have changed natural habitats from tropical shrubland to tropical savannah and deciduous woodland. This created a suitable environment for many bat species that predominantly live in forests.

The number of coronaviruses in an area is closely linked to the number of different bat species present. The study found that an additional 40 bat species have moved into the southern Chinese Yunnan province in the past century, harbouring around 100 more types of bat-borne coronavirus. This 'global hotspot' is the region where genetic data suggests SARS-CoV-2 may have arisen."

Coronavirus: Bat scientists find new evidence

A virus that is a close match to the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, has been discovered in bats at a wildlife sanctuary in eastern Thailand.

The researchers predict that related coronaviruses may be present in bats across many Asian nations and regions.

Their discovery extends the area in which related viruses have been found to a distance of 4,800km (2,983 miles).

The area includes Japan, China and Thailand, the researchers said in a report published in Nature Communications.

Writing in the journal, the researchers said the sampling site (Thailand only) and sampling size was limited, but they were confident that coronaviruses "with a high degree of genetic relatedness to Sars-CoV-2 are widely present in bats across many nations and regions in Asia".

Has Israel just found the cure for Covid?

Experimental Covid drug cures 30 out of 30 moderate to severe cases in Phase I clinical trial at Israeli hospital. Second new drug also shows promise.

Even with Israel’s world-leading rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations, drugs to treat Covid patients are in desperate need across the world.

Two such drugs developed in Israel show great promise in clinical trials: EXO-CD24 and Allocetra.

arber-1168x657.jpg

EXO-CD24, an experimental inhaled medication developed at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, cured all 30 moderate-to-severe cases in a Phase I clinical trial.

Developed over the past six months at the hospital, EXOCD24 stops the “cytokine storm” – where the immune system goes out of control and starts attacking healthy cells – that occurs in the lungs of 5-7% of Covid-19 patients.

“To date, the preparation has been tried with great success on 30 severe patients, in 29 of whom the medical condition improved within two to three days and most of them were discharged home within three to five days. The 30th patient also recovered but after a longer time,” the hospital reports.

There's hardly any flu this year. Coronavirus restrictions may be responsible

(CNN)It's the second week in February, a time of year when influenza is usually sweeping across the country.

Yet this year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports, there's very little influenza activity.

The CDC's map of flu activity across the US is often a sea of red during the first half of February -- red meaning cases are high and increasing. Yet for the entire flu season so far this year, the map has been a reassuring wash of green -- indicating little to no flu activity.

Yet this year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports, there's very little influenza activity.

Just had a conversation with a couple of pharmacists about this...they say it is due to the high number of people getting the 'regular' flu vaccines last fall in combination with the mask/sanitization/hand washing going on that normally does not happen.

I also think a percentage of 'regular' flu cases may be getting mixed in with the covid19 data...but not much.

South Africa pivots to unapproved Johnson & Johnson vaccine after scrapping AstraZeneca

JOHANNESBURG (AP) - South Africa will give the unapproved Johnson & Johnson vaccine to its front-line health workers beginning next week as a study to see what protection it provides from COVID-19, particularly against the variant dominant there, the health minister said Wednesday.

Zweli Mkhize said South Africa has scrapped plans to use the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine because it "does not prevent mild to moderate disease" of the variant.

Pfizer vaccine found to give strong immune response to new Covid variants

People who have received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine have been found to have strong T-cell responses against the Kent and South African variants of Covid, suggesting that the vaccine will continue to protect against serious disease in the coming months.

In the first study to test immune responses against the variants circulating in populations, researchers found that although antibody responses against the new variants were blunted, they may still be high enough to protect most people from becoming infected, after a second dose of vaccine has been given.

Trust in COVID vaccines is growing

Survey spanning several countries finds encouraging trends, but researchers warn vaccine hesitancy could slow pandemic recovery.

d41586-021-00368-6_18848372.jpg

Attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccines seem to be improving in some parts of the world, a survey of thousands of people in 15 countries has found. Researchers have welcomed the results, which suggest that an increasing proportion of people are willing to be immunized. But they caution that some problems persist, such as concerns about vaccine safety.

“For the first time since the pandemic began, I can sense that optimism is spreading faster than the virus,” says behavioural scientist Sarah Jones at Imperial College London, who co-led the global attitudes towards a COVID-19 vaccine survey.

As in the article @koolishman posted above, this drug may be a game changer...fast and cheap to produce. Big pharma will be so bummed out if this becomes the new 'standard' for treatment. :xf.smile:

Coronavirus: Greece to test Israeli ‘miracle drug’

The largest hospital in Greece will take part in the trials of an Israeli treatment for COVID-19, following the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on Monday.

During the press conference with Mitsotakis, Netanyahu held up a vial that he called a “miracle drug,” adding: “If you’re infected by corona and are seriously ill and have a lung problem, take this, inhale it, and you come out feeling good.”

wow

People will beLIEve anything!

Indeed change is the only constant....

The climate always changes.

How about that lush climate in Taiwan?

9 covid labelled deaths and we are over a year into this plandemic.

...and TOTAL mortality is not higher than normal worldwide....

And most doctors see through the scam

Anyone tired of cultures so focused on death?
Are you ready to spin your focus to life?

Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are very safe.

Anaphylaxis cases of vaccines. 4.7 out of million for Pfizer and 2.5 out of million for Moderna.

Reports of Anaphylaxis After Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines in the US—December 14, 2020-January 18, 2021.

Following implementation of vaccination, cases of anaphylaxis after administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines began to be reported.3,4 Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur after vaccination, with onset typically within minutes to hours.5 The initial estimated reporting rates for anaphylaxis in the US were 11.1 cases per million doses administered of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (December 14-23, 2020) and 2.5 cases per million doses administered of the Moderna vaccine (December 21, 2020-January 10, 2021).3,4 Since these early estimates were generated, millions more doses of both vaccines have been administered and safety monitoring has detected additional cases of anaphylaxis. This analysis updates the reporting rates of anaphylaxis in individuals following receipt of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine.

m_jit210009t1_1613071100.83897.png

Continued safety monitoring of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the US has confirmed that anaphylaxis following vaccination is a rare event, with rates of 4.7 cases/million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses administered and 2.5 cases/million Moderna vaccine doses administered, based on information through January 18, 2021. When considered in the context of morbidity and mortality from COVID-19,9 the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risk of anaphylaxis, which is treatable. Because of the acute, life-threatening nature of anaphylaxis, immediate epinephrine administration is indicated for all cases. CDC guidance on use of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines8 and management of anaphylaxis is available.10 All facilities administering COVID-19 vaccines should have the necessary supplies and trained medical personnel available to manage anaphylaxis.

5 cases per million is pretty low. Some people have anaphylaxis cases for a bee or wasp bite, for eating peanuts and for taking antibiotics.

People with previous cases of allergic reactions should keep on the site until 30 minutes after taking the vaccine shot. If an anaphylaxis reaction happens, a epinephrine shot will be required.

Severe allergic reactions to COVID-19 vaccines are extremely rare, CDC says

https://www.sciencenews.org/article...-severe-allergic-reactions-extremely-rare-cdc

"Out of the first 1.9 million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine administered in the United States, there were 21 reported cases of severe allergic reactions to the vaccine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said January 6.

“These are safe and effective vaccines. We have good data to show that,” Messonnier said. The country’s surveillance systems for vaccine side effects are “incredibly robust,” she said, and “the only thing that we have seen is these severe allergic reactions.”

Still, sites that administer COVID-19 vaccines need to be able to recognize the signs of anaphylaxis — which, if it occurs, would most likely happen shortly after vaccination — and be prepared to treat it, CDC officials said. And people who have a history of anaphylaxis as a result of any cause should be observed for 30 minutes after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine.

Anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening, requires emergency treatment with epinephrine.

True.

And it is treatable since it happens somewhat immediately after administering vaccine. Risk vs reward is highly skewed in favor of vaccine.

Science wins.
