I like cardsandgifts.mobi because many people put off buying cards or gifts until the last minute. I see someone driving around, trying to figure out what stores are open or what to buy, then gets out his mobile phone and surfs to a site that helps him figure out the right gift.

The others would be fantastic names if they were .com, but I don't know how to value them as mobis. There's this constant question of, why is this site appropriate for the mobi extension as opposed to .com, .org or .net?

Thats the thing , if they were .com (or even .net) but .mobis , seems to be a quandry. Im still regging any and all .mobis with 1 word or great .com names.

If you don't have unique development plans for their specific mobile application(s), I'd strongly suggest that you cease hand-registering .MOBI's, IMHO. :snaphappy:

Best of Luck.

ThankYouCard.mobi

UnsecuredPersonalLoans.mobi

Hey Jeff you have been a big help so far. Mind I ask why . Why isnt regging a .mobi the same as regging a .com , .org or .net . WHy a different strategy with .mobi. WHy is my goal not to park or hold on to for future value along with my .coms , ,orgs , .nets and .us ??

If you think the .mobi will be big one day isnt it smart to try to get traffic to great names and sell them when you get traffic. I mean most of the good 1 or 2 word .mobis are gone . there are a few left. Also say a good name liek thank you card . its taken in every extension except .mobi . thats not going to last to long . Or am I looking at this the wrong way ??

Yes, a bit as without lots of developed .MOBI websites - the important "ecosystem" - the future for .MOBI is far more uncertain, IMHO. To be hand registering, at this juncture, lots of .MOBI's in the hope of getting traffic to these undeveloped / parked domains -and- without the knowledge that .MOBI's "ecosytem" will be viable and sustainable is a gamble! Adding up potentially years worth of renewal fees - expounded by additional registrations of same (my guess is you'll continue to register along the way, as well) - is something that one needs to seriously consider if embarking on this speculative strategy, IMHO. :gl:
Developing your .MOBI's may be abother matter ... but I'm gathering you'll be more domaining / parking / holding versus actively developing and marketing, in my view.
Hope this is helpful, and all the best! :)

I see what you mean Jeff. I plan on parking and maybe developing any that get good traffic. if not i may not re-reg any that dont do well. I waited until now to see how the .us and .mobi do and from what I read the future looks good. Being a PDA and mobile internet geek myself(Been using a Treo since the treo600) i love the .mobi sites.
I think I may just put a freeze on what I have for now. I only have 40 domains and only 10 are .mobi so its jut a few. But again Jeff Thank you for taking the time to look at my post and help me out. Much appreciated.

I agree we need content, but it's the domain owner who decides whether to develop or park. If you own the domain, it's your choice because you own it.

I have several names which I have no intention of developing, but intend on "holding and parking" until I'm ready to sell.

Nothing wrong with that, look at how many .com's are parked. If the big corps start promoting and using .mobi, good names will be worth a lot whether parked or not. Nothing wrong with speculation, just use your head and realize that there's not too much left out there to hand reg that would be worth anything EVEN IF .mobi became the next .com.

If you really want to get into speculation, I would advise buying names on the aftermarket, where good names can still be had for a few hundred bucks.

Better to spend $300 on one really good name on the aftermarket than to spend that same $300 hand regging 30 sub-par names, which by the way need to be renewed every year. Renewing one name is a heck of a lot cheaper than renewing 30, especially when that one name is better than the other 30 combined.

I consider this investing . I compare it to a story on the new the other day. Bunch of parking spaces went on sale in Manhattan and they were bought up quick ( I think $200K each) and they said half were people investing hoping to re-sell in a few years for double that. Same thing us domainers are doing. Purchasing internet real estate hoping someone needs it in a few years.
