When I go to the website, it says "NOTICE: This domain name expired on 07/30/2012 and is pending renewal or deletion."

So which is it? Expired or renewed?

Godaddy temporarily extends the expiry while they try and sell off the expired domain.

I checked out the auctions list and no dice. They do however, for the "generous" price of $69, offer to negotiate with themselves on my behalf to buy the domain. :td: Gee, thanks GD!

it is experied but for furthur use it can be renewed at the cost given by godaddy..!!

It will appear in their auctions at about day 26 after expiry for 10 days, if it is not renewed.

There is a discrepancy between registrar and registry whois because domains are autorenewed at registry level so technically they are not expired but in good status.
From the POV of the registrar the domain is expired because renewal has not been paid. Expiry date will switch back to 2012 if the domain enters redemption.

It is expired. you can be renewed by paying some amount.

FYI:- Basically once a domain expires it enters into the “Auto Renew Grace Period”. This period usually lasts 30 days and the owner of the domain is able to renew anytime during that time frame. Should the owner fail to renew the domain it will enter into the Redemption period.
The registrar becomes the owner of the domain on this period, and it will try to sell the domain through auctions or retain it in the case it generates PPC revenues. Finally if the domain is not sold through an auction and if it is also not generating revenues the registrar will release it.
