Could someone explain this process to me?

Hi guys,

After reading many articles that describe how the big domain boys snatch up names almost instantly as they drop, I still don't understand the process.

Where does snapnames, pool, and other services like them come in? Are they in effect competing with the big boys in trying to get the dropped name? And if they succeed, they then auction the names off to people who wish to purchase from them?

So if one was able to program something that was faster than what snapnames and pool have, then he would be able to bypass that process?

Thanks

Not all, but almost every decent .com domain never hits the "true drop" process. That is because registrars have agreements with Snapnames, NameJet, and TDNam (and a couple other minor players).

If you haven't checked out this article, it may help

Article on Predrops vs. True Drops

It's a bit out dated now (Network Solutions, Bulk Register, and eNom go through Namejet.com now), but the explanation of the process is still pretty accurate.

Also, there's very little hope of beating the Snapnames, Pool's, etc, as they are grabbing true drops at the registrar level. Home-grown procdures are practically futile for grabbing anything of value that hasn't already been repurchased and re-released ("kited").

Hope this helps!
