I would start with Macromedia Dreamweaver if you are completely new. That is a great place to start. If you have questions feel free to PM me.

Yes I agree, start with Macromedia Dreamweaver. I used Frontpage for a while but then I seen the light!

If you want to learn html code, go to google find some tuts and then get in notepad, after learning some of the code, get yourself dreamweaver.
IMO, if you go right away buying dreamweaver, you'll be pretty lazy learning code and you'll care more about the appearance.I'm not saying that appearance doesn't matter,I'm just sayign that it's better not learn the back things first and then the front.

Loads of tuts and books out there.Good luck!

Other way to learn is to sign up for cheap membership with template site something like BasicTemplates or TemplatesResource.
You than can download bunch of different types of templates and try to customize it.
As other posters suggested you should use WISIWIG editor as DreamWeaver or FrontPage - this way you can see code view and live view of the page side-by-side...

I also recommend using Dreamweaver + Photoshop - I taught myself by going to websites that I thought looked nice - Then do a "save as" - open it up in dreamweaver and then "reverse engineer" it to see how it all comes together.

Then get on having fun with building a basic one first :)

Notepad is your main man! Best to learn how to code your designs after youve made them!

Hi

Its always good to learn the code to understand the basics and this will also help in the understanding of packages like Dreamweaver. Even dreamweaver has limitations on the kind of code it churns out, so understanding web design code will help you detect that. Also i would suggest that you away from frontpage but go with photoshop, its great for starting out and get into the habit of looking at source of other websites.

I agree with those recommending that you learn basic HTML coding before moving on to Dreamweaver. You will find that "troubleshooting" DW's code output (it's good, but not perfect) will be MUCH easier if you know the basics.

Also, instead of using notepad for your hand coding, try one of the more "full featured" text editors that are available. They offer a lot of nice enhancements such as better search & replace functions as well as "code view/syntax view" which color codes your work making it a easier to read, sort through and a lot easier on the eyes.

A free one I use for quick changes is http://www.crimsoneditor.com/. If I need to do extensive editing I use UltraEdit which costs around $45. It has a much broader range of features that I find useful.

Good Luck!

I agree with TestCase -

UltraEdit cant be beat for shear number of features and general usefulness(Is that a word?) of the program itself.

Ill agree with everyone else that you will benefit in the long run from learning HTML coding before diving into Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver in itself can be very daunting to someone whos new to web design, so between learning basic HTML coding, the terminology you will pick up along the way wont hurt either.

For starters, i would recommend using frontpage or dreamweaver.

The very first thing I would do is google the keywords: web design tutorials then familarize your self with raw html. then start working with java scripts. by doing a search for java scripts. then after your fluent in html and java then learn php. once your fluent in html, java, php, then move onto css. Then from there you should be able to tackle MySql databases.
It's going to take a lot of practice and your not going to be able to do it over night. Website design is a learning process and it seems its a never ending process. always new scripts techniques etc.

until later <(_) :)
