i have several domains that I am anxious to build some content on. They are all quite clear cut in what the content will contain, it is just a matter of procuring said content and hence my question.

for a site like ezinearticles.com can I just cut and paste at will and no worries from a legal standpoint?

What about Wikipedia? Can I use that content at my discretion?

What other sites are good if you want to get free-legal-to-use content?

THANKS

From a legal standpoint you will be fine so long as you provide credit where credit is deserved. From a SEO standpoint it will hurt you in the long run.

so if i say the following article comes from wikipedia and then paste a whole article i am legally fine? and if i want better seo is it a matter of unique and original content?

also, does this mean i can cut and paste from any site (ie urban dictionary) and as long as i start by saying that it came from that site its legally kosher?

Exactly. Search engines do not like duplicated content, they are trying to select and rank only single best page with similar article.

Its acceptable to take articles of ezinearticles as long as you give credit to the author and normally quote his/her website. But overall, hand writing quality articles is always better as you won't get penalized by google for duplicate content.
