Confused about dropping and backordering...

Hi...I'm somehow confused...

i see some sites offering domain names droping in a day or two...
Does it mean that i have higher chances of getting the domain if backorder it 1 or 2 days prior to their drop?

If i place a backorder,is it possible to know if someone else has already backorded the domain name?

I dont think there's any greater chance if you backorder it 1 or two days before but im not sure about what happens if its allready been back orderd, could be first come first serve kinda thing
