I don't visit the chat room very often.

Several people, regularly send me messages...

Dude, why aren't you in chat?

I don't know... I guess it's because every time I go in there, people want to talk to me.

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

LOL

Ok fine, I'm trying to get it right now, and whenever I click "join chat" button... not only does it NOT take me into chat, it CRASHES the regular NamePros browser window. I tried it 5 times in a row.

D-:

Really...I feel this might be a sign from God that I'm not supposed to be in the chat room.

Michelle, I swear.... I've been trying all night long to get in there. :'(

I've got the latest version of JAVA.

I've rebooted my computer, and cleared my cache.

I've done a "disk cleanup" and "disk scan".

I've disconnected and re-connected my dial-up ISP.

:'(

You're doing this on FF, eh?

Crashes the browser? Yikes.. Firefox or IE?

RJ, Marc, yes, FireFox.... but also IE.

I have IE installed too, but on my system, for whatever reason, it crashes my system if I'm running FF at the same time. So I've tried BOTH, SEPARATELY, and gotten the same results.

It must be JAVA.... some way...

Because my dial-up connection is notorious for sucking, but it's actually stable tonight with everything else I've done.

^ the pink box here reporting version 1.5.x from Sun Microsystems ?

There used to be two different versions of Java you could use, one from Sun another from Microsoft. MS discontinued theirs. You can still download and use it though. ( http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html ) Not sure how to ditch the Sun java though.
Sorry -RJ- but the M$ version is just begging for problems. M$ java is the doorway often used by trojans....
-db-, is your connection timing out because of DU speed?

i used to have the same problems as you -db- but i figured out how to fix mine.

go to your local wal mart there in dallas, by 1 8oz can of cambells brand alphabet soup, 1 extra long roll of kite string, and 1 8 oz claw hammer.

open your soup and pour it in a bowl and set it aside, poke a hole in the end of the can and tie a knot in your string and then run it through the end of the can. Next take the other end of the kitestring and wrap it around your keyboard a few times. Now there are two ways to work this, you can either talk directly into the can and watch the words appear on your screen once you enter chat, or you can dump the soup back in the can and arrange the letters into words. It uses a different platform than java to access chat, i like to call it Soup Microsystems. If you are still having connection problems, dump your soup back in the bowl, hit your computer with the hammer a few times, put the soup in the microwave, and go watch TV and have dinner.

Hope this works for you, it worked for me :)

Have you tried in it other browsers, such as Opera? What about attempting to use a diffrent chat-room that uses Java?

Yeah i can't access chat from my work pc (probably a sign from above...) due to non-java compatable browser- when I tried to download the patch or whatever it is linked in chat in this scenario, it crashed my office network; haven't tried since. Still i'm sure it will save me from wasting everyone's time in there will my incessant rambling. :)
