.com for Spanish/Portuguese speakers??

What is better, a local name or a .com? Any value in sp/po dictionary words as .coms?

.COM is used quite a bit though the CCTLD is commonly used as well. Keep in mind you need to have realistic prices for Spanish/Portuguese domains. Sales over $1000 are not nearly as common as they are for English domains.

I see Spanish domains sell at some level every week. And I've sold quite a few for low to mid $x,xxx amounts. Oddly enough, I think I've had more Spanish sales outside .COM than in it. Not just ccTLDs like .ES and .MX but other gTLDs like .NET and .ORG. But I think that's mainly a result of the domains I happen to own. .COM of ccTLDs will typically fare best, I expect.

I have less experience with Portuguese domains. Have owned and still own some, but not enough data to draw upon.

I haven't dealt much in either extension, but ccTLDs do sell. Not as often as COM, but if the name is good it can fetch some cash. I would think the COM extension is okay, I believe that extension is pretty popular globally. At the same time, if browsers (like visiting Google) automatically go to the ccTLD extension, that is probably the preferred one.

As a portuguese I would advice you to go to the .br instead of the .pt (they are 20x more than Portuguese) and there is Angola domains, highly priced but not many registered i believe. Beware that portuguese language has very different cultures, what might work for the brazillian market might not work for the portuguese market.

Some of my "Spanish domain" sales have actually been acquired by Brazilian buyers because the keyword has a meaning (often similar but not always) in Portuguese.
