Can a normal run of the mill guy(me) buy a .com.au extension ?

From the looks of it I could but if anyone asks for supporting documentation I am borked.

What the take for an average domainer ?

It is for businesses registered in Australia only, which I love (as an Aussie) because that means there is virtually no spam/crap out there.

You'll need an ABN or ACN number and an Australian address (but you won't have to prove they are yours).

Do businesses there prefer the .com.au over the .com? Is the .com version just not that important to those businesses that use the .com.au?
