Hey guys,

Now I would not do this for any other name in the auction. But for all of you one word generic buyers...

Coil.com will be at auction on Saturday at 3PM EST in the Live Auction chatroom. I thought this name was worth it to have its own promo thread. :D

Click here for more info on the auction.

Also, Weak.net will be in the auction. I wasn't sure where to post this, but since a name of this caliber was going to auction and few generic buyers knew about it I figured I should let some more people know. :)

Can't wait to see what Coil.com goes for. Its sure gonna be a very interesting auction.

By the way, isn't it Weak.NET ? or did I imagine that? I really shouldn't be online right now, can't see properly lol.

Anyway, great idea with this auction. Hope it goes well.

I believe Bfluid had the high bid at 20k - but I'm guessing the buyer used the buy-out clause...

Sorry being noob, but...
What is buy-out clause?

Most Auctions are NamePros (when there is no reserve) allow for a BuyOut clause. It means that the owner of the domain can opt not to sell it buy paying the bidder a % of the sale. BUT that is capped at $5. So, basically the owner can pay Bfluid $5 to opt out of selling the domain name.

ic.
Thanks for explanation.
$5 for $50 domain is ok, but, for premium domains?
That's not a Auction with "no reserve" in that case.
It's just taking offers :)

Yeah, $5 on a premium domain is sort or lame.

If it gets bid over $2500 the buyout should be at least $50.

Supposedly this name had a 85k offer, on the word of the broker. Honestly, I have a hard time believing that is true. What commercial use could this name be used for? Honestly, I'm asking because I don't know. If I owned Coil.com and an offer of 85k was made, it would be a no brainer. It's a domain only a speculator would buy imo.

You think so?
85K is not small change, but...
Just one tiny section of the building industry would be huge.
I used to be a project manager at one of the siding co. in Charlotte, NC. back in early 90th.
That co. alone bought $20,000 worth of aluminum coil in just one color every week.
Imagine entire NC, all businesses who use not just aluminum, but, any coils.
Imagine entire USA, whole world?

Thanks for the insight! You made a strong point, and something I was unaware of. It didn't seem that obvious to me since the word "coil" is not something I hear mentioned a lot. I still see it as a bit limited in usage, unlike a lot of other generics I see, which is why (baring those in the industry you mention) I don't see this going very high. At least marketed on domaining forums. The pool of end-users can't be very big I would think.

Still, I would love to be proven wrong, and see a big sale.

In part, you are correct ;)
Most people who don't work in construction have no idea how big construction industry is.
But, you do know how big real estate industry is, right?
Guess what? no construction, no real estate.

Bad news is construction hurt real bad when real estate hit bottom.
Where I live, I believe more than 50% of construction contractors are
out of work for months. Before this year is done, 2/3 of them will be gone :(

Plus, construction people are still blind about power of the internet.
They still don't understand why they need web site.
It's changing though, slowly.

So, in that sense, you are right.
Offer you mentioned, 85K is great offer in current condition.

Coil would be a great brand name for a software product targeted to programmers as well.

Can I bid $NP with it? :P

Domain name is not sold.

And contrary to popular belief... I did not take $5 for the name. :D

Could this thread be closed?
