.CO (dotCO) Domain Giveaway Starts Today

Social news startup Spotery.com is giving away .CO domain names as part of a 2 week long giveaway starting today.

Spotery will tweet out one 'news-related' question each day at 1pm EST on the @Spotery Twitter account. All you have to do is follow the Twitter account, answer the question correctly by midnight, and one winner will randomly be selected each day. Domains will be registered with the giveaway partner, Namecheap.com.

That's definitely something we spent a lot of time thinking about when branding. "Proper English" wise, yes, two T's would be correct. However, we found that most saw it as 'SPOT'-ery instead of 'SPOTTER'-y or 'SPOTER'-y, hence our decision on the name.

Is it worth the effort? That really is a personal opinion. For many, yes it is. How much time does it take to answer one question? A few seconds. For some, $29.99 is a lot. For some, it's enough money to not even dabble in the .CO extension unless an offer like this came along. It's a great way for someone who wants a .CO, but might have not purchased otherwise, to get their hands on one.

Our domain registrar partner for this giveaway, Namecheap, runs a similar trivia contest every Christmas giving away .COM domains on Twitter. How much is a .COM worth? Yet, the Namecheap contest is VERY successful.
