I've been trying to run a list of available .CN domains for the past 24hrs and seem to retrieve a few registered ones but mainly (99%) i am getting Errors!
.CN have a who-is search protection much like .org or does anyone else know what the deal is with this extension???

thanks in advance,

mike

interesting, yours seems to work fine, mine errors out. i checked the who-is servers and they seem right. i checked with several domains, one i used was "abroad.cn" i get an error, it shows registered with your site.

*edit* i'm checking against: whois.cnnic.net.cn

Strange, maybe they have "max queries per day"-rule? Must admit that I haven't checked the registry website, maybe you can find information about the whois service by going there.

Naturally you may query from my site until it goes "dry" if they actually have such a rule.

Edit: Im also querying whois.cnnic.net.cn

doesn't look as if there are any limits to queries/day. However, the interesting thing is, i used your tool to search domains and some show available, then i used http://www.rwgusa.com/whois-cn.php and received different results, finally i checked via GoDaddy and everything seems to be registered in their eyes....

now that i'm thoroughly confused with the results and still have more errors than valid results, i guess i'm not going to be running any queries... :'(

Hmm...maybe they query another server? I think the one that we're using is the correct one. have you tried querying the root DNS-servers to see if the domains exist in DNS? If you don't want to post the domains you can pm me and I'll check for you, but I'm guessing you know how to anyway :)

Yeah, that's one of the VERY few things i know how to do. Problem is, i'm running huge lists on automation, if i'd run them by hand; one by one, i'd retire before i get halfway through the first list....
Would you happen to know whether i can "mass query" the DNS root servers for .cn and what their URL is?

You would have to do that through a script. The root-servers are i.root-servers.net.

If you meant the url for a service already set up, then I'm sorry but I don't know of one.

No problem, too bad it didn't do much good.
