I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

hey Kassey I'm kinda late with this but did you read this before?

http://domaingang.com/domain-news/china-domain-investor-arrested-for-buying-non-premium-letters/

is this what you are telling me about that perhaps Chinese Character IDN's will soon dominate the Chinese Domain investing market?

I mean there can only be a certain amount of usable CHIP domains in the 4L.com and even 5L.com with just consonants and no vowels and of course no V.

Did this really happen? I can see why Chinese domainers might eventually go and invest into short Chinese character .com's eventually?

did you finally write that article about why you believe Chinese IDN domains will soon rise to the top of domain investing in China?

If you did I missed it. I'm eager to read it if it's finished. Thanks.

Ali Auction (of Alibaba) will be auctioning premium .top domain names such as 10.top, ok.top, mk.top, air.top, and hai.top on May 20. Some well known .top websites are Hitao.top, cnmaker.top, and 100kuai.top. >>

.mobi-do you think this extension can bounce back?
I think it will become a niche player, in the same way that .手机 (Mobile Phone) will become, as written in my blog post today. LLL .mobi are being picked up everyday at the drop.

Don't know. Please include Chinese characters.

The link is not a news article, please note. I have written about IDN.IDN several times. Please check the old posts on my site: 05.13, 04.26, 04.25, 04.22, 04.10, 04.03. I don't think it will dominate the investment side. In my opinion, it can become the consumer-facing part of a company with no content, but .com will remain to be used as corporate site and also most valuable extension in China.

Thanks for this info but now let me ask you. You may know that .cn's creator also created .China but in chinese idn characters.(I am mobile can't really type the characters right now but I'm sure you know it)

If .cn will be big will .China in idn go along for the ride or surpass it in the future?

I have single word or character Chinese idn.idn domains that look like this (after translating from Chinese character to English)

(These are not mine just as examples. Can't really remember my domains right now lol)

Jobs.China
Hotels.China
Business.China
Bank.china

The problem with idn's in general is slow adoption plus the world's addiction to the English Western characters which has dominated domains since day one.

I wonder. If China really is arresting people for investing in premium chip 4L domains that do not translate to pinyin and contains vowels i e a o u and v if they are that strict then how far fetched would it be that maybe the Chinese gov my decree that all Chinese based websites and any website that wants to be shown in China must have along with its current domain a Chinese idn domain and or numeric domain?

This would be so awesome if it ever happened!

What do you think? Will? Is it headed that way?

I stand corrected this was not a news article. Are you implying that this is a work of fiction? Made up story. No truth to it?

@ Avtar629

Domaingang is a satire news site. The news are fake and satire unless stated otherwise. It's like The Onion just for domain news. Of course no one is being arrested for buying "V" domains. Why would anyone do this?

They are making fun of chinese investors avoiding vowels and v.

I can't believe how many people here still cite Domaingang as a news source.A few weeks ago someone reported that domainers were opening a dolphin diving academy, whatever that means, because Domaingang had reported it. :D

Hahahaha thanks! Got it! But you what? I wouldn't put it past the Chinese government. They are wacky in that sense. That's why it was a little bit believable.

Would been nice if it were truth though. I still think certain countries and languages should force thee adoption of idn for businesses operating within their borders specifically China, Japan, Korea, Russia even all Arabia countries. At least as a second domain that points to their current company domain. I mean where is the pride in ones own country's language?

I think bribes need to be made to government officials by the big registrar's to make this happen and we will all be rich! Lol

@Avtar629 In terms of Chinese .IDN, there is no clear winner at this stage. Look at the registration numbers in my blog post published today. I do believe Chinese .IDN domain names have a place in corporate domain strategy -- as labels used in marketing to direct consumers to corporate websites because they are easy to remember. We Chinese remember company and product names as Chinese characters, not Pinyin or English names usually.

I think the best Chinese .IDN names are those the flow well, where the name and the extension together make sense. See the examples I gave in my blog post published yesterday on .IDN mobile phone.

Yes, the adoption is still slow, so it may be a long term play.

Hey Kasey

Hope you are well.

Just wondering, what's your take on the .VIP extension and massive sales that have been generated so far in China for this extension. Do you think the extension will continue to do well in the Chinese market?

take on the .VIP extension
.vip has the advantage that VIP is a recognizable term to Chinese and .vip registration fee is very low (e.g. $4 at some registrar), so I can understand the craze. I read Baidu domain news and Techcrunch everyday. What do I see? Most of the big as well as up and coming startups build their empire on .com or .cn. Warren Buffett used to say "We applaud the endeavor but prefer to skip the ride.” That summarizes my take on .vip.
