I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable, regardless of where in the world you live and which cultural background you come from.

Now that the Chinese domain market has become a hot topic, I myself want to understand this trend too. Is there any real meaning behind each domain name sold in China? Here, I'd like to share with you what I've found as I read the Chinese news everyday.

GZX.com
GZX can stand for 更自信 (even more self-confident) which can be used in many fields such as education, self-help, and even consumer products to raise your self image.

XLY.com
XLY can stand for 夏令营 (summer camp) or 新领域 (new field) which can be used in recreation and high-tech products.

IMO is just a bubble made by smart guys
Say chinese not buy or reseller buy only DN without vovels
Show attachment 20006
From 4.cn - live auction & are a lot of this and good price + read more about chinese language so nothing serious here almost any domain name is good if it sell to the right buyer & stop sell cheap to so called "reseller's"
"I believe only short and easy-to-remember domain names are sustainable" true + keywords & one word and not important if have or not vovels
is selling at 200 $ actual change, where is the news?

I don't know if this has anything to do with the Chinese Domain name Bonanza but...the internet has run out of 3L .US names. In April i remember seeing at least 100 on the expired domain name list. 3L .CO's are gone, and I saw only three 3L .ME. Interesting...

This surprises me, given that the .us space is so restricted.

It could be that investors (in general) have gone bat sh*t crazy.

Two months ago I acquired a LLL .us by accident (I forgot to strike it from my Pool list, and Pool, bless its little heart, snagged it, and I was the only chump, LOL) -- boy, was I ticked at having to pay $64 for a .us, but reputation is everything, so I honored my obligation.

Now it doesn't look so bad, although I still have to wonder if it has much value in the Chinese market.

:)

Are three-word Pinyin domain names acceptable?

When it comes to Pinyin domain names, the most popular one is one-word pinyin, followed by two-word pinyin and then three-word pinyin. Usually, three-word pinyin names are long and difficult for consumers to remember. But, the following case is different.

Qu Chao Gu is a P2P funding service which has received 100m RMB funding itself recently. It has a very interesting name.

QuChaoGu:趣炒股>Fun in stock speculation

Even though the domain name has three pinyin words, the total length is only 8 letters, which is still short enough to be easy to remember.

So, there is really no fixed rule. Each domain name must be judged on its own merits.

The company does not own the same name in .cn and .com.cn extensions.

Other well-funded startups using three-word pinyin domain name include XingKeDuo.com and ChiZiCheng.com.

None of the Pinyin words used as domain names that you've quoted have any meaning.
That's according to Google translation and Yable.com

Which translation utility confirms the meanings you've quoted?

@80-20 No translation utility is required. Names can be found on their corresponding websites.

Do Chinese use English words in domain name?

Take a look at what Alibaba has chosen for its two services.

阿里健康
Domain name is AliHealth.cn. The second part of the name is not a Pinyin word but translation of the English word "health."

阿里体育
Domain name is AliSports.com. Again, the second part of the name is not a Pinyin word but a translation of the English word "sports."

Are 5N domain names suitable for developing websites? Read the following commentary and decide for yourself.

=============
在前段时间,域名界有一种流行观点,那就是5数字不适合建站,只能是玩玩,只能做炒货炒炒,至于这种观点是怎么形成的,是不是有人故意混淆视听,目前还不得而知。但是以国人对数字的偏好而言,说5数字不适合做站有点言过其失,试想一下,车牌号,人家都抢好数字挂在车上。难道终端就不会把好数字挂在自己的网站上吗?

Roughly translated:
Some time ago, there was a prevailing view in the domaining circle that 5N domain names are not suitable for building websites. They said it's only a play thing for speculation. How was this view formed? Was someone trying to confuse the public? We don't know. But, if you consider the fact that Chinese love numbers, then it's really an exaggeration to say that 5N domain names are not suitable. Think about it. If we all fight to try to grab the best license plate number, why wouldn't end users use a good number for their website?
=============

More than 40 live websites built by end users on 5N domain names are listed in the story. Here are some of them together with their Chinese names.

@djum. Excellent find! I didn't know there are actually companies running their businesses on a N-N-N domain name!!!

But, can consumers remember the domain names?

All credits go to @Domain-Reseller.

I think for visual advertising N-N-N are perfect, and the pattern to remember is very clear - 3 digits separated by hyphens, even 5 years old can memorize 3 digits and catch that pattern.

I can't see any domain bubble in China.

A bubble is formed when the general population is involved. At least that's what I've learned from past bubbles. Legend has it that Joseph Kennedy sold all his stock before the Crash of 1929 after a shoeshine boy gave him some stock tips.

Now, I read Baidu news everyday using the keyword 域名(domain). What do I see? Most news come from eName, followed by a few from the tech industry. That's it. I don't see major Chinese news publishers reporting on people buying and selling domain names everyday.

Is there really a domain bubble in China?

Naming variation

A study abroad service provider just launched its services on the following domain name.

LXplus.com

The name consists of two parts. LX are letters from two Pinyin words and Plus means + or extra.

LX:留学>Study abroad

(It can also mean:
LX:旅行>Travel
LX:流行>Trendy)

So, some end users in China do not follow the CHIP rule and I think they are just fine.

I can't see any domain bubble in China.

A bubble is formed when the general population is involved.

not necessarily. just you and me - thats enough to make a bubble: lets choose some 2 random 8N.com ...for example your and my birthday dates like 19750823.com, call it our "premium chips" - there are only 2, now lets trade them everyday between us adding $100 to the sale price everytime... we make profit - at any moment you have 2 x current price on yr account, two "valuable" domains or a domain plus current price.
at one point when the price is $1,000 after you send me the money and i push my name to you i decide to quit and not buy you;s back - im at +$1,000, both domains are yours, i tell you im not interested anymore cause i need a new notebook... bubble is formed, you are a proud owner of two (all) "premium chips" which unexpectedly no one wants to buy. it only took two of us to make it happen, not 1bln Chinese...

in fact, the fewer people take part the faster and easier the bubble bursts. because fewer people needed to stop buying for the whole thing to crash..
current "chips" bubble is formed by a few traders and speculators, average Chinese dont even know about it. as soon as small traders run out of money to digest what bigger players dump on them and not enough new victims get in buying, demand collapses, bigger guys begin selling off at huge discounts, bag holders left surprised what that all was and why their zjjqp.coms got no bids anymore...

A domain investor recently bough the domain name NAI.cn for 300k RMB, and it's not a CHIP name. Actually, it's a Pinyin word.

NAI:奶>Milk (for parenting or milk products?)
NAI:耐>Able to bear
NAI:奈>How
