Yea, a lot of people in China prefer baidu.com rather than google, especially university students, because the net they surf cannot access international webs without a proxy. That's a internal network for educations which is much faster than internet.

No,no, in this case, it is not true. We can access internet whenever we want and anywhere, homes, companies, internet cafe, even wireless in starbucks and McDonalds. It is not like North Korea, man. But the edu net is for scientific use only. University Students just need to pay extra money on international access if they want (the edu net is free and 5 times faster) and they can simply use a proxy to access internet.
It is not illegal, just because the edu net itself.
