What happens when you have an asset that comes along and is digital, tax-free, rare, portable and has a proven wholesale market? An unprecedented rise in value is what happens.

When wealthy people decide to invest in something, it’s usually something rare in nature.
Domain names have long been a core alternative investment for those in the know. Monthly reported sales are often over $20 million and unreported sales are estimated to be much higher.

the internet cannot be bought up

Their not buying the internet, they are buying and selling everything about you multiple times a day with the info they gather every time you visit their websites.
The more domains they own the more info they collect and sell.
Look at what Windows 8.1 is doing, it was given away for FREE and it's raping everything about you daily and and being sold over and over again.
So short explanation is their buying you not the internet.

any site you visit, regardless of it's owners' nationality, can implement scripts/cookies that will collect certain data.

i can review the data collected from ppc services, the "stats", ie: number of visitors, clicks on my domains, email addresses, etc, but i'm not buying or selling people or their info, though "visitors" as a statistic, is info and it can help increase value of that domain.

this is true for anyone, who parks or uses adsense, etc, to monetize domain names.

now if you want to talk about the "big collector" of personal info....

think about regular facebook users, and why advertisers pay for their eyes.

imo....

They are not just buying the internet, they are buying "everything". It's a new world with TWO super powers, not just one.

Investopedia quote, May 2016: "China’s GDP is $17.63 trillion and the U.S. GDP is $17.41 trillion. However, the U.S. is way ahead of China in terms of GDP per capita (PPP)".

It's interesting how they also consider short domains as speculative assets, just as at any stock market. Supply and demand, ups and downs.

Oz.com quote: "Chinese buyers accounted for nearly 75% of all global short domain name purchases in 2015, and 48% of the top 100 sales".

As soon as domain sales are able to be concluded with bitcoin or other crytpo's then we going to see a MASSIVE explosion in domain trades.

The purchases might not make sense to most people now and it would come off as amateurs, who don't know what they are doing and wasting their money ....especially with all the numerics and randon L's - BUT I believe it's all part of the bigger plan / bigger picture. The plan will unfold better once domains are traded using crypto currency. - Think about it, digital assets that u can acquire with NO tax, NO fixed location that can be purchased and traded outside the current monetary system. That will be the reality once domains are traded with crypto currencies. :)

Also over here in London Chinese investors are buying up really expensive property, leaving it empty for years as they do not want people to live in the property.

Yet there is a housing crisis, particularly in London, seems unethical to me. But then again, where money is concerned you often find people with no ethics.
