domain chessgambits.com - any views/opinions?

Just registered chessgambits.com - surprised it wasn't already taken - 30 million pages on chess - 996,000 with gambits included - any views on potential ? I play chess so I might even develop it if I learn how to make a website !

Yes, it's a nice name. I think a website with chess related content is a good idea, Adsense ads and perhaps affiliate links to subscription chess-playing websites.

I'm a serious chessplayer, and even though I like to see chess domains/websites, I can't put much of a value on chessgambits.com. Although "gambits" is a common chess term, I've never heard the phrase "chess gambits" used. (I see that a few websites mention that term, but that's very little support.)

You'd have to be a relatively experienced chessplayer to know what "gambits" are, and if you're that experienced, you probably know that "chess gambits" doesn't make much sense. (NB: A "gambit" is a strategy in which you let your opponent take some of your pieces in exchange for some type of positional advantage [usually in the opening stages of the game]. They are usually referred to as "opening gambits" - a phrase that has about 40 times as many Google hits as "chess gambits".)

P.S. Offer the domain to the owners of the .org, and to the guy with the Angelfire site - maybe you could make a quick $50 or so.

Glad to see you agree Clocker - most of my domain names get no votes of confidence whatsoever !

A good point randomo re. opening gambits, although I don't see a 40 x difference on google - only 17x - you may be right that opening gambits is more common but I think that someone looking on google for opening gambits is more likely to include the word chess in his search. However, I had a look and openinggambits.com was available too - so I've registered that as well

How odd - I get 1090 for "chess gambits" on Google. I am in the UK - maybe we get extra pages ? The wonders of the Internet !
