I emailed them asking if there was a way of setting up my account so that the email address I give out to receive payments cannot be used to login to my account.
A month or so later, they responded:

PayPal said:
Upon reviewing your statements I see that you can have email address to accept by linking this email address on eBay and for your log in on PayPal you can add another email address and make it primary and use that as your log in.

This addressed your concerns today. If you have other concerns feel free to
contact us back.
"This addressed your concerns today"
Gee, If they say so, I guess my concerns must have been addressed :-/

Thats classic. Almost sounds like it may have come out of a "call" center from India or something. I especially like their level of confidence in the email. Pretty sure of themselves, eh? LOL

support staff usually do not read the full mail and then copy the next match from the answer database.
did you ever realized that if you put 2 questions into a support mail that you get the first answered?
maybe they are paid by response?

I don`t think you can do that.

If I were you I would do all I could to expose their incompetence. Send the info to the highest level you can on paypal and ebay....and to anybody else you can find who may be interested. These companies make too much money from us to allow such incompetence.

nc, that's actually a good question and i wouldn't mind having a way to do that too since it would be more secure. shame they didn't have an answer for ya... or rather, shame they didn't answer your question.

The way I read it they are trying to say that you can accept payments to any email address registered under your account, but only the primary email address will allow login.

Yea, thats Paypal for you... When they can't use their automated responses, you better watch out!

oh no, now I'm beginning to doubt my powers of english comprehension! :o

Thanks, I'll give that a go.

BTW, as a comparison, I sent an email to the Google Checkout team, and within minutes received a detailed, clear, response from someone based in the same country as me ( UK )

Turns out they don't currently have a feature like PayPal where you can give out an email address and people can make payments to you. ( you have to generate an invoice and send it to them, or have a website / shopping cart style setup )
Also, they *seemed* genuinely appreciative of the feedback.
